Beijing to Datong. Overnight in Datong.

Beijing Railway Station - At approximately 7:30 am, the driver (driver only, no guide) will meet the operator at the hotel lobby in Beijing and transport them to Beijing Railway Station for the train to Datong (G2505 08:40 am–11:00 am). The journey takes about 2.5 hours.

Datong Railway Station Zhanqian Square - Upon arrival in Datong, the operator will be promptly picked up and transferred to the Datong hotel (driver and guide).

Yungang Grottoes - After checking into the hotel and taking a short break, the first visit will be to the Yungang Grottoes. Upon arrival, the guide will accompany the operator to explore over 59,000 impressive Buddha statues from the Northern Wei Dynasty (386 - 534). Known as a treasure trove of Buddhist art, the Yungang Grottoes took over 70 years to achieve their current grandeur. The sculptures reflect the exquisite artistry of the Northern Wei and exhibit an imperial style. The operator will surely be amazed by the breathtaking scene.

Huayan Temple of Datong - Following the exploration of Northern Wei sculptural art, the operator will be guided to Huayan Monastery to admire the architectural style of the Liao Dynasty (907 - 1125). A notable feature is the statue of a smiling Bodhisattva, which distinguishes it from others.

Nine Dragon Screen - After lunch, the tour will proceed to the Nine-Dragon Wall, which served as a massive screen in front of a prince’s mansion 600 years ago.

Datong City Walls - The day will conclude with a visit to the Ancient City Wall, after which the operator will be returned to the hotel.

Datong to Beijing. Tour concludes.

Datong - At 9 am, the guide will meet the operator at the hotel lobby and transfer them to the Hanging Monastery, a 90-minute drive covering 84 km.

Hengshan Hanging Temple (Xuankong si) - The famous Hanging Monastery appears as a grand relief embedded in a steep cliff. Walking along the hanging walkways to visit each temple hall will be an exhilarating experience. It is unique in that it honors the hierarchs of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism together.

Ying Xian Wooden Pagoda - Next, a car ride to Yingxian County will allow the operator to see the renowned Wooden Pagoda, the oldest wooden tower in China, standing for nearly 1,000 years without a single nail used in its construction.

Datong Railway Station Parking Lot - After lunch, the driver and guide will transport the operator to Datong Railway Station for the train back to Beijing (G2520 18:07-20:25). The journey takes about 2.5 hours.

Beijing Railway Station - Upon arrival in Beijing, the operator will be promptly picked up and transferred to the hotel (driver only, no guide).
