Setting Sail on a New Adventure

The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as I arrived at the starting point for the Kayak Dénia Adventure. The anticipation was palpable, and I could feel the familiar thrill of embarking on a new water-based journey. As a marine biologist, I’ve had the privilege of exploring some of the world’s most stunning marine environments, but the promise of kayaking through the Cabo de San Antonio Marine Reserve and exploring the historic Cova Tallada was something truly special.

Our guide, Aarón, greeted us with a warm smile and an infectious enthusiasm that set the tone for the day. His passion for the ocean and its preservation was evident as he carefully explained the history of the Cova Tallada, a cave that has been a quarry since the 12th century. His attention to detail and dedication to our safety and enjoyment were immediately apparent, and I knew we were in good hands.

Aarón provided us with snorkel masks and a waterproof booklet to identify the diverse marine life we were about to encounter. As I submerged myself in the water, I was greeted by a vibrant underwater world teeming with life. Schools of colorful fish darted around me, and I marveled at the variety of species that called this reserve home.

Aarón’s thoughtful touches, like providing polar fleeces for warmth and catering to dietary needs with a delicious lunch, made the experience all the more enjoyable. As we paddled back to the beach, I reflected on the day’s adventures and the unforgettable memories we had created.
