- Mekong River Tours [Asiana Link Travel] - Saigon, often still called by its former name, is Vietnam’s largest city. It is a dynamic city of contrasts, where street vendors selling fruits and vegetables stand alongside glamorous western-style bars and boutiques. Saigon’s history spans just 300 years. In 1859, the French captured the city, making it the capital of Indochina. From 1956 until its dramatic fall in April 1975, it served as the capital of the US-supported Republic of Vietnam.
This comprehensive full-day city tour explores Saigon’s turbulent history and offers a glimpse into the city’s fascinating diversity.
- Chinatown (Cho Lon) - District 5 - Discover the heritage of Sài Gòn from the unique perspective of a traditional cyclo. After a convenient hotel pick-up, enjoy a curated hour-long journey through the vibrant streets of Chinatown. Experience the essence of the district as we visit these historic sites:
- Ba Thien Hau Temple - Explore the Thiên Hậu temple to witness the blend of Chinese and Vietnamese cultures, and visit Bình Tây Market for its lively atmosphere filled with goods and produce.
- Binh Tay Market - Bình Tây is a wholesale market and one of the largest in Hồ Chí Minh City.
- The Independence Palace - In the morning, we will visit these notable sites:
The Reunification Palace: On April 30th, 1975, the Vietnam War officially ended here when tank number 843 of the North Vietnamese Army crashed through the gates of what was then the residence of the President of the Republic of Vietnam.
- War Remnants Museum - Formerly known as the Museum of American War Crimes, this museum offers a poignant display of the futility of war. The black and white photography in the ‘Requiem’ exhibit is particularly moving, dedicated to both foreign and Vietnamese journalists and photographers who lost their lives during the conflict. The courtyard outside showcases the remnants of war, including rusting jets, tanks, and cannons captured from the American military.
- Central Post Office - The Old Post Office is a prime example of French colonial architecture and is the largest post office in the country.
- Emperor Jade Pagoda - Built in 1909 in honor of the supreme Taoist god, this is one of the most atmospheric temples in HCMC, filled with statues of mystical divinities and grotesque heroes. The air is thick with the scent of incense, obscuring the intricate woodcarvings.
- Ben Thanh Market - We’ll return you to your pick-up point or a location in the city center as per your request.
