Get To Understand Burgundy Wines - Small, relaxed tasting. Matthieu shares the complicated rules surround the various crus in a an easy-to-understand overview. He sets up the tasting by sharing various scents to tune your nose to various wine aromas like terroir, fruit, spice & floral. Walked away with a better understanding of wine characteristics & new knowledge of Burgundy wines. Matthieu also provided recommendations for wine venues in nearby cities, and shared shipping info so we were able to aggregate other purchases in one shipment. Highly recommend.

An unforgettable wine experience in Dijon! - My wife and I had the most enjoyable and enlightening wine class with Matt at The Wine Compass. It was easily one of the best wine experiences we’ve ever had. Matt’s passion for wine is infectious — he explains everything with warmth, clarity, and enthusiasm. We learned how to identify notes, aromas, and flavours in both young and mature wines, and how to assess them according to our own tastes. The setting is beautiful, the wines and pairings were superb, and the whole experience was both educational and great fun. If you’re curious about Burgundy wines or simply want to deepen your appreciation for them, this is an absolute must in Dijon.

Excellent Wine Class With Matt! - There are not enough superlatives to use to describe the wine class we enjoyed with Matt! First of off, his location, although a little tricky to find, oozes charm! He is located in an old cellar that looks like it was made specifically to store wine (which it probably was). One is immediately captivated by the space. The stone walls and ceiling are comprised of a circular arch of stones painted white. One gets the sense that he/she is stepping back into a time when grapes were all picked by hand and horses provided most of the transportation! Matt, himself, is very impressive. He speaks perfect English so guests do not have to strain or guess what he is saying. He is vey knowledgeable and shares his knowledge in a straightforward and easy manner. He talks a little about himself and by the time you are ready to leave, you wish you lived in Dijon so that you could develop a friendship with him! For us, he started with a little lesson on what aromas on might notice in wine. Then we went on to exploring flavors. It all was very fascinating! We drank six or seven wines - both whites and reds. Most of us (there were eight in the group) enjoyed all of the wines. My wife and I had a great time and agreed that we learned a lot. Do not hesitate to join one of Matt's classes, you will love it! Oh, as a tip - suggest you walk/travel to the location in advance of your session - the location is a little difficult to find and it would be a shame if you missed the start of the class!

Exceptional Quality for value - Mathieu from Wine Compass is so impressively knowledgeable with fine wines / trends from multiple wine producing countries. A true local who knows exceptional value Burgundian wines. I learned so much in a compact session. The fun part is the blind tasting of exceptional quality of Burgundian wines without the Grand Cru price tag. So much fun yet discovering new flavour profiles followimg the guidance into tasting each wine. Bravo & Sante. I can do this tasting again and highly recommended.
