- Baitul Mukarram Mosque - As the national mosque of Bangladesh, Baitul Mukarram can accommodate 30,000 worshippers, making it the 10th largest mosque globally. It features modern architectural elements while maintaining the traditional Mughal architectural principles that have long influenced the Indian subcontinent.
- Sadarghat - Enjoy a one-hour boat ride on the Buriganga River at the Sadarghat waterfront.
- Ahsan Manzil - Located at Kumartoli along the Buriganga River, this palace was the official residence of the Nawab of Dhaka. After independence, the Nawab’s descendants struggled to maintain it. Built between 1859-1872, it showcases Indo-Saracenic architecture. Originally constructed by Sheikh Enayat Ullah during the Mughal era, it was later sold to French traders. Today, it serves as a national museum with a rich history.
- Star Mosque (Tara Masjid) - Situated on Abdul Khairat Road, Armanitola, in old Dhaka City, the Star Mosque lacks a dated inscription. It is known that Mirza Golam Pir, whose ancestors settled in Mohalla Ale Abu Sayeed (now Armanitola), built it. Mirza Golam Pir passed away in 1860, suggesting the mosque’s construction occurred in the early 19th century.
- Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection - Evidence points to an Armenian community in the region during the 17th to 18th centuries. The Armenian Church, built in 1781 on Armenian Street in Armanitola, was previously an Armenian graveyard. Agaminus Catachik, an Armenian, donated the land for the church’s construction, with assistance from Michel Cerkess, Okotavata Setoor Sevorg, Aga Amnius, and Merkers Poges. Mother Teresa stayed here during a visit to Dhaka.
- Lalbag Fort - Also known as Fort Aurangabad, this incomplete 17th-century Mughal fort complex stands proudly by the Buriganga River in southwestern Dhaka, Bangladesh. Construction began in 1678 AD by Mughal Subahdar Muhammad Azam Shah, son of Emperor Aurangzeb and later an emperor himself. His successor, Shaista Khan, did not continue the work, despite residing in Dhaka until 1688.
- Dhakeshwari Temple - Meaning ‘Goddess of Dhaka,’ Dhakeshwari is Bangladesh’s primary Hindu temple. In 1966, it was renamed Dhakeshwari Jatiya Mandir following a campaign by Bangladeshi Hindu groups seeking official recognition after Islam was declared the state religion in 1988. As a state-owned temple, it is recognized as Bangladesh’s National Temple. Legend attributes its construction to King Ballal Sen of the Sena dynasty in the 12th century.
- Shahid Minar - The Shaheed Minar monument commemorates the language martyrs who were killed on 21 February 1952 during the language movement. A memorial was erected shortly after the killings, on 23 February 1952.
- Curzon Hall - Curzon Hall, located in Dhaka, Bangladesh, boasts a fascinating history. It played a significant role in various political struggles and is now an integral part of traditional education. The University of Dhaka’s School of Science division includes Curzon Hall.
