While Saint Mary’s Lake is stunning, most visitors are drawn further up the trail to a small, somewhat dirty patch of snow known as Saint Mary’s Glacier. Wildflowers, windswept trails, boulders, and snowfields offer significant rewards for the easy hike to St Mary’s Glacier. It’s a quick day trip from Denver, with modest elevation gains, a short distance (half-mile), and summer snow and ice, making it perfect even for young hikers. Although it can be busy on summer weekends, the views on a clear day are spectacular, and a walk around the lake leads to the glacier itself.
