Arrival at Malamala: A Warm Welcome

The moment I set foot on Malamala Island, I knew I was in for a treat. The island, a mere 25-minute vessel ride from Port Denarau, felt like a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. As a former professional surfer, I’ve been to countless beaches, but there’s something uniquely captivating about Malamala’s powdery white sands and crystal-clear waters. Meeting the Island’s Characters: CJ and Fufu

As I settled into my lounge chair, a vibrant personality named Coconut Joe, or CJ as he preferred, appeared seemingly out of nowhere. With a beaming smile and infectious energy, CJ made me feel right at home. He was the kind of person who could brighten anyone’s day, and his presence added a special touch to my Malamala experience.

CJ ensured I was well taken care of, bringing me refreshing coconut water, non-alcoholic cocktails, and a Fiji Bitter with a flair that made it feel like magic. His attentiveness and genuine warmth were a testament to the island’s exceptional hospitality.

Not long after, I met Fufu at the water equipment spot. Her quick wit and engaging sense of humor made the process of signing safety waivers and gearing up for kayaking and snorkeling a breeze. Fufu’s laughter was infectious, especially when I attempted to get into the kayak backwards, resulting in a comical tumble into the water. Her advice on the best snorkeling spots and kayaking tips made the day even more enjoyable.

Embracing the Island Life

With CJ and Fufu’s guidance, I embarked on a kayaking adventure around the island. The gentle waves and stunning views were a reminder of why I love the ocean so much. Snorkeling in the clear waters revealed a vibrant underwater world, teeming with colorful fish and coral.

Though I didn’t venture to the island’s eateries and bars, the day was nothing short of fantastic. The combination of Malamala’s natural beauty and the exceptional service from CJ and Fufu made it a memorable experience.
