So much fun! A “must do” if looking for a fun activity in Bavaria - This is a “must do” if traveling to Bavaria! We had so much fun. Our instructor, Jade, was absolutely amazing. The class was extremely organized, personal, and interactive. My partner and I are both in our 30s, but this would be equally fun for older participants or kids. Our pretzels turned out great!

Fun for the whole family! - We are a family of four, and our two kids are age 11 and 14 and cannot agree on anything these days ... if one likes something, it seems the other must automatically opt to dislike it. Jayd, Jake and this pretzel making class pulled off the impossible, and it was the highlight of BOTH my kids' family vacation. There was a little history, a lot of laughs, a ton of energy, and a whole lot of delicious pretzel eating. Make sure to include this experience amongst all your alpine adventures when you're visiting Garmiche; you won't regret it!

Pretzel Class with so many options! - We had a wonderful time at the pretzel making class with Zum Bauer. We learned how to actually make the pretzel dough as well as actually make three pretzels each - we even got to pick all of our own toppings from a huge variety of options! Jade was wonderful and made all of us feel comfortable and entertained during the class. Our pretzels turned out so tasty - we even got to go bags and I ate some of my as a snack the next day. Would highly recommend for families or friends!

Fun interactive experience for the whole family - Amazing experience for my whole family. Jade was awesome and so welcoming to all of us! Don't listen to the weird reviewer who had a problem with her being American. She had great energy and was super knowledgeable. This is one of the best things we've done while in Germany. Definitely a great interactive experience for everyone, even if a little pricy. Would definitely recommend!

Fun, educational and unique - Great experience. Plus we ate pretzels on our hike around Lake Eisbee and at the beer garden the next day. We used the traditional salt, and there were some "far out" options available.

Touristy—not serious baking class - Very touristy. The gal in charge was from Seattle, WA, and didn’t know squat about baking, nor about authentic German pretzels.
She asked the students what yeast was. Someone answered ‘bacteria,’ she said no. Someone else answered, ‘fungus,’ she also answered no. Then she said, “ Yeast is not a bacteria or a fungus it is a living organism.” Wtf?!
She pushed the sales of drinks very hard. She wasted a large part of instructional time bartending. Selling drinks was her main goal, not teaching pretzel making. She also was very proud to offer so many toppings for pretzels, including ranch power and crickets. Again, wtf?! This was advertised as an authentic German pretzel baking class.
We were given pre-measured dry ingredients to stir with water. Then we were given pre-made dough to shape into pretzels. Another wtf?! This would have been appropriate for young children, not an expensive baking class.
The pre-made dough we were given was old and slightly crusted over. It was also dyed GREEN. It was leftover dough from a class made 3 days before on St. Patrick’s Day. Someone asked for regular dough, she said she’d let each person make one regular pretzel, but she needed to use up the older dough.
So we left with green pretzels, made from green dough that already had a skin on it.
The pretzels lacked the dark glossy shine that is the hallmark of authentic German pretzels, they also did not rise well and were flat, very dense, and chewy. And I’m not comparing them to American mall pretzels, but rather the many, many authentic German pretzels I ate during my trip. We ended up throwing them away.
The gal/instructor didn’t know anything about baking, we did NOT learn how to actually make pretzels (we got to stir, then roll pre-made old green dried out dough into long ropes to shape our pretzels—a great activity for a kindergartener), and we left with 3 subpar, very unappetizing green pretzels.
This class was a joke and for the price (about $90/person) I expected a serious class.
Do yourself a favor, buy a couple authentic pretzels and enjoy them with some good German beer. Keep the other $75 and watch a YouTube video on German pretzel making after you get home.
The pretzel on the left is one of our pretzels, and the photo on the right is a “real” pretzel
