- The Old Town Hall - On Christmas Eve 1974, Darwin’s Town Hall, which had withstood tropical conditions and 64 air raids during World War II, began to crumble during Cyclone Tracy. Built 14 years after European settlers arrived in 1869, this heritage building was irreparably damaged by the cyclone, as was much of the city. Some tours offer photo opportunities at this heritage-listed site, a reminder of the cyclone’s destructive power.
