Pidurangala rock another historical place located next to Sigirya and has become a trending place with among both locals and foreigners. Dambulla Cave Temple is known as one of the oldest and biggest rock temples in the world. The Safari at Minneriya National Park will make your trip complete. This 03 hour off road trip will allow you to see hundreds of Elephants in their natural behavior at their own place. Tour in a traditional village is another interesting item you can add for the day. These key places are located within close proximity. Situated in the Matale District, Central Province of Sri Lanka, situated 148 km (92 mi) north-east of Colombo and 72 km (45 mi) north of Kandy.

Fantastic trip highly recommended - We did several daytrips form Colombo and this trip was the highlight. From 2500 years old wall paintings Dambulla monastery, to safari and meet wild elephants and the amazing Sigriya (Lion Rock) . Our super knowledgeable guide and driver Pradeep made this tour an unforgettable experience for me and my wife. This tour is highly recommended.

Best Value Trip to see the Stunning Sigiriya plus Cave Temples, plus Safari - I booked the trip from Kandy via Booking.com which was easy. Geesara of Mahaweli Tours operated the trip & was in touch a couple of times beforehand, which was a nice touch. Amila was the guide who was very attentive, cheerful and helpful throughout the day. The day was excellent, with the cave temple, then Sigiriya followed by a safari. The trip to the top of Sigiriya was fantastic, though a tough walk up. Definitively worth the effort. The driver Mahaweli uses for the safari was very knowledgeable and had worked with elephants before. There were a lot of 4x4’s doing the same thing which was a shame, but our guides made up for it. By far the best value trip I have ever had, and lasted 15hrs from start to finish!

My friend and I did this... - My friend and I did this tour with our driver, Sarath, who was amazing! He safely got us from each excursion and communication with him and the tour operators were very smooth. We loved Sigiriya, Dambulla, the lunch spot, and the elephant safari. It was a very long day (arrived back to the hotel at 9:30pm) but wouldn’t change a thing. If you only have one day, highly recommend this tour!!

Private tours - Nice and easygoing communication with our coordinator - Geesara. He organized great trips and transfers for us to Dambulla, Sigiriya, Kegalle, the Elephant Orphanage, and Balapitiya. One of our drivers (Indika) was really careful, supportive, and nice!
I highly recommend Mahaweli Tours for private tours around the island - they are supportive, experienced, and offer excellent service at reasonable prices!

Greatest experience in 2026 - Visiting 3 sites from Colombo,
- golden temple
- sigiriya rocks
- Minneriya national park
All so good. Nothing waste any of moments by driver Sarath and coordinator Geesara. Must those events when u visit Colombo for sure. Will be coming again to climb up 2 rocks next time.

A memorable road trip to Sigiriya with Mahaweli - I had an amazing trip and it was very cheap as well. Worth every penny, communication was good and everybody I interacted with could speak English. Car and driver both were really nice so really enjoyed the trip.

For a group great for solo booking rather not - If you want to experience a lot in one day, this tour is just the thing. The safari was definitely my highlight, I saw a lot of elephants. The lunch was super delicious and my driver Indika was very friendly, always responded to my needs and asked me again and again what I would like to do, which I thought was great. His driving style was true fine and I felt reasonably safe. Pick up and drop off has worked flawlessly in the set period. He accompanied me to the hotel entrance as it was already dark in the evening.
I give a star deduction due to the fact that Indika speaks very bad English and I could hardly understandably talk to him. As a woman traveling alone, I felt a bit uncomfortable with him from time to time, as he put his hand on my thigh twice and also brushed past my hip/buttocks with his hand. I don’t think it’s possible and I don’t dare to book a tour alone anymore. For groups I would not recommend the tour for solo travelers.
