Dambulla - The Dambulla Cave Temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (1991) located in the central region of Sri Lanka. It is positioned 148 kilometers (92 miles) east of Colombo, 72 kilometers (45 miles) north of Kandy, and 43 kilometers (27 miles) north of Matale.
Dambulla boasts the largest and most well-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The rock rises 160 meters above the surrounding plains, with over 80 documented caves in the vicinity. The main attractions are spread across five caves, featuring statues and paintings related to Gautama Buddha and his life. There are 153 Buddha statues, three statues of Sri Lankan kings, and four statues of gods and goddesses, including Vishnu and Ganesha. The murals cover an area of 2,100 square meters (23,000 square feet), depicting scenes such as the temptation by the demon Mara and Buddha’s first sermon.
Sigiriya - Sigiriya, or Sinhagiri, is an ancient rock fortress located in the northern Matale District near Dambulla in Sri Lanka’s Central Province. The site is of historical and archaeological importance, dominated by a massive rock column nearly 200 meters high.
According to the ancient Sri Lankan chronicle, the Culavamsa, King Kashyapa (477 – 495 AD) chose this site for his new capital. He constructed his palace atop the rock and adorned its sides with colorful frescoes. Midway up the rock, he built a gateway in the form of a giant lion, giving the site its name — Sīnhāgiri, the Lion Rock (similar to Sinhapura, the Sanskrit name for Singapore, the Lion City).

Polonnaruwa - Poḷonnaruwa is the main town in the Polonnaruwa District of North Central Province, Sri Lanka. The Kaduruwela area is known as Polonnaruwa New Town, while the other part remains the ancient royal city of the Kingdom of Polonnaruwa.
