Dali - Your guide will greet you in the hotel lobby at 9:00 AM and accompany you to Shibaoshan Mountain, a 2-hour drive covering 120 kilometers.

Shibaoshan Town - At Shibaoshan Mountain, explore the Shibao Shan rock carvings and Baoxiang Temple. These carvings, over 1,300 years old, mark the spread of Mahayana Buddhism into Yunnan from Tibet. The carvings include depictions of the bodhisattva Guanyin and other Buddhist figures etched into the mountainside. Spend the day at the grottoes or enjoy a hike through the lush forest surrounding the temples — you might even spot a group of monkeys.

Yunnan Shaxi Ancient Town - Next, visit Shaxi Old Town, stroll through the square, and explore ancient courtyards with the locals. Shaxi was once a vital trade station on the Tea and Horse Caravan Road, a significant Silk Road branch. Over a thousand years ago, this trade route linked Tibet with Eastern China. In exchange for Yunnan teas, Tibetans traded their renowned horses to Song Dynasty officials in Eastern China, who needed them to defend against northern invaders. Thus, the Tea and Horse Caravan was established, with Shaxi as a key trade station.
Though Tibet and China no longer trade along this route, Shaxi retains its border-town charm. The cobblestone alleyways remain unchanged from a thousand years ago. Various minorities, including the Yi and Bai, gather every Friday at the Sideng Market, where mountain villagers descend to trade their goods.

Shaxi - Tiger Leaping Gorge - Lijiang. Tour Conclusion.

Yunnan Shaxi Ancient Town - In the morning, your guide will meet you at 9:00 AM or any time before noon to transfer you to the Lijiang Tiger Leaping Gorge area, a 2-hour drive covering 120 kilometers.

Tiger Leaping Gorge (Hutiao Xia) - Today, visit the first section of the Gorge near Lijiang. The Tiger Leaping Gorge offers a stunning view of the rapids and the powerful current of the Jinsha River, formed by the erosion between Jade Dragon Mountain and Haba Snow Mountain.

Spanning about 16 kilometers, the gorge descends approximately 300 meters through a series of 18 rapids. The water surface is around 1,800 meters above sea level, while the Snow Mountains on both sides rise as high as 5,600 meters.

Old Town of Lijiang - China - Afterwards, take a private car to Lijiang Old Town, where you can enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure, marking the end of your tour services. Lijiang Old Town is one of Yunnan’s most enchanting ancient cities. Although largely destroyed by an earthquake in 1996, it was swiftly rebuilt, aided by its UNESCO World Heritage status. Lijiang is the heart of the Naxi minority, known for its unique culture, including a religion and a writing system with over 1,000 pictograms. The culture of Lijiang and its old town is a delightful place to relax and unwind for a few days.
