- Le Monument de la Renaissance Africaine - From your hotel, we commence our journey through life’s tapestry, beginning with an exploration of Dakar, the erstwhile capital of the French West African colonies. Our tour includes visits to Independence Square, the birthplace of Dakar’s history, as well as the presidential palace, the Senegalese Infantrymen’s Square, the railway station, the National Assembly, the Grand Cathedral, the Obelisk Square, and the mosque of divinity, culminating with the African Renaissance Monument. Subsequently, we proceed to the port to board a ferry to Gorée Island, where we encounter the annals of humanity. Gorée Island served as a pivotal hub for the transatlantic slave trade, dispatching slaves to Europe and the Americas. We will explore the House of Slaves, featuring the renowned ‘Door of No Return’ and the chambers where slaves were shackled, awaiting ships to transport them. Our island circuit will reveal a UNESCO World Heritage site, including the French church from 1830, the site of the Portuguese chapel erected in 1481, which also functioned as a burial ground for Portuguese missionaries, the French governor’s abode, the historical museum, and the ancient French fortifications. In essence, we will delve into the entirety of the island’s heritage.
