A Nostalgic Adventure: Discovering Ba Na Hills’ Enchanting Heights
Drawn by the promise of Asia’s longest cable car ride and a medieval French village, I embarked on a journey to Ba Na Hills in Vietnam. Join me as I recount the enchanting experience that unfolded atop the mountain.
A Journey to the Clouds
As a retired teacher with a penchant for road trips and a heart full of nostalgia, I found myself yearning for a new adventure. My husband and I decided to trade our RV for a plane ticket to Vietnam, where we would embark on the Ba Na Hills Cable Car Adventure. The allure of Asia’s longest cable car ride and the promise of a medieval French village perched atop a mountain was too tempting to resist.
Our journey began with a 45-minute ride from Da Nang to the Mercure Hotel’s check-in lobby. The process was seamless, with a dedicated cable car entrance for hotel guests. As we ascended the mountain in our cable car, the view of Da Nang’s coastal city unfolded beneath us, a breathtaking panorama that reminded me of the open roads and vast landscapes of my youth.
A Step Back in Time
Upon reaching the summit, we were greeted by the enchanting sight of the French Medieval village. It was as if we had stepped into a fairy tale, with full-scale castles and cobblestone streets that transported us back in time. The village was bustling with activity, from street performances to art installations, each corner offering a new discovery.
The Golden Bridge, with its iconic giant hands, was a sight to behold. It was a reminder of the whimsical roadside attractions I had encountered on my travels across America. As we strolled across the bridge, the cool mountain breeze and the stunning views of the surrounding landscape filled me with a sense of wonder and nostalgia.
Nightfall in a Fairy Tale
As the sun began to set, the day tourists departed, leaving the village to transform into a serene and romantic setting. The outdoor vendors closed, and the village took on a new life, reminiscent of a scene from Les Miserables. The quiet cobblestone streets and the soft glow of the street lamps created an atmosphere of rustic charm.
We spent our evenings exploring the village, dining at the French bistro, and enjoying the temperate weather. The fog that occasionally enveloped the area added a mystical quality to our experience, much like the foggy mornings I remember from my childhood road trips.
Our time at Ba Na Hills was a delightful blend of adventure and nostalgia, a journey that reminded me of the beauty of exploration and the joy of discovering new places. As we descended the mountain on our final day, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the memories we had created and the stories we would share with our grandchildren.
