- Machu Picchu - Today, visitors will embark on a journey to Machu Picchu. The day begins with a hotel pickup at 4:50 am, followed by a two-hour drive to the Ollantaytambo train station. At 7:05 am, travelers will board the Vistadome train, featuring large windows, for a two-hour ride to the town of Aguas Calientes. From there, tourist buses will transport guests on a 30-minute ride up to Machu Picchu. Upon arrival, a tour guide will lead visitors to the best lookout point. A two-hour guided walking tour will then commence, showcasing the renowned sites of this remarkable citadel: The Temple of the Sun, The Royal Tomb, The Intiwatana (sun dial rock), Main Plaza, Temple of the 3 Windows, The Artisan Sector, the Condor Temple, and many more. After the tour, there will be time to explore the ruins independently. Guests will need to take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes to enjoy lunch at one of the numerous restaurants available. It is important to arrive at the train station 30 minutes before departure. The Vistadome train departs at 6:10 pm for a two-hour journey back to Ollantaytambo, followed by a two-hour drive back to Cusco, concluding at 10:30 pm.

Peru sightseeing - One of my goals in life is to visit the seven wonders of the world. This place worth the money and vacation time to visit. My wife and I decided to visit Machu Picchu doing the beginning of the rainy season in January with less tourist and the usual clearing of the clouds in the morning. Getting to Machu Picchu is expensive and somewhat convoluted -taxi, bus, train and finally a bus. I suggest the earliest transportation from Cusco vice the stay overnight in Aguas Caliente and bring a poncho, a snack and some water. Take the Peru Rail Visitdome train vice the Inka rail company because of the Visit-dome’s extended windows for outstanding environmental views. There were less people to walk the Inka ruins at 2,400 feet at a leisurely pace. I suggest you book your visit in advance with a tourist agency because the site limits the number visitors each day. Ask for Franklin as your guide because he is a proud Peruvian history major. He gave us a realistic history lesson on the Spanish conquistadors, the Inka rulers and the other Indian tribes of Peru as well as explained the various sites at the ruin.
