• Sacsayhuaman - Situated on a hill at the northern edge of Cusco, Sacsayhuaman offers a stunning view over the city. This UNESCO World Heritage site features enormous stones, some as tall as 13 feet (4 meters), meticulously fitted together to form a fortress-like structure. Explore the site and delve into its history. Be amazed by the Incans’ architectural prowess and appreciate the variety of stone shapes and sizes, including designs of the condor, puma, and snake, representing the three Incan worlds. Afterward, board your coach to visit Qenqo, where you can see the ancient Puma temple and its sacrificial altar, then proceed to Puca Pucara, a military ruin once used to defend the Inca Empire. Conclude with a visit to Tambomachay, an archaeological site featuring aqueducts, canals, and waterfalls, possibly a luxurious spa for wealthy Incans.
• Cusco Cathedral - After exploring Cusco’s surrounding sites, return to the city to visit the main square, the picturesque Plaza de Armas. Here, you’ll find two remarkable churches: Cusco Cathedral and the Church of the Society of Jesus. Join a guided tour of Cusco Cathedral to learn about its rich history and admire its stunning late-Gothic and Baroque architecture.
