The route ascends to the Pilluyo pass, offering a view of the “Apu Ausangate,” the guardian of Cusco and its surrounding villages. Continue to Ocongate and proceed to Tinqui (3900m), where the team of muleteers (“arrieros”) is met. The adventure begins here. Set up camp facing Ausangate (6378m) in the village of Upis (4380m), with an option to enjoy the hot springs.

Day 03 Pucacocha - Camp. Vinicunca (4555m)
Vinicunca Mountain - Depart from the camp and gradually ascend to the pass (4940m). From this vantage point, enjoy a remarkable view of the Ausangate behind. Descend to the valley for lunch before crossing a second pass (4980m). Ahead lies the Vinicunca valley, where the slopes are tinged with red and ochre due to the high iron oxide content in the rock. Peacefully descend to the camp further down the valley. For those feeling adventurous, a climb to the Vinicunca pass offers a stunning sunset photo opportunity.
Day 04 - Camp. Vinicunca – Vinicunca (Rainbow Mountain 4965m) – Punku Wiri (4655m)
Vinicunca Mountain - Depart from the camp to the Vinicunca pass. Here, the clay layers create a breathtaking rainbow effect at the mountain’s peak, giving it an otherworldly appearance as colors from off-white to crimson blend seamlessly. Cross to the mountain’s other side and follow ridges overlooking vast valleys with equally vibrant slopes, where lucky observers might spot numerous vicuñas. Lunch is served at Anta Grande. Afterward, continue a few more kilometers to reach the camp at Punku Wiri.
