• Poenari Citadel - High atop a steep cliff overlooking the Argeș River stands Poenari Fortress. Unlike Bran Castle, which Dracula scarcely visited, Poenari was the true mountain fortress of Vlad the Impaler, constructed by his captives.
  Note: Due to its remote location, the fortress’s dramatic and imposing ruins will be admired from a distance. Access to the summit via the 1,480 steps is contingent upon local wildlife safety regulations (bears).
