My daughter-in-law and I always wanted to see cranberries being harvested so we purchased tickets for the family to take the tour. We all came away, even the grandchildren, Bryce 13 and Evan 9, very impressed. Brenda was a wealth of knowledge, we learned so much from her lecture, she is an amazing woman. Everyone involved were very pleasant, Connie, the bus driver, and woman who prepared the food for tasting. Thank you for the cookbook with the recipes from our tasting. The bus tour of the bogs was all I could have hoped for. I highly recommend taking this tour. Don't forget to buy blueberries and cranberries, the are huge and delicious!
The information about cranberry growing was given in a fun yet informative way. The cranberry food tasting was excellent and expanded my palate for cranberries in general. The tour was outstanding. We got to see bogs that were flooded and were being harvested. Even friends who were reluctant to go with us loved it. The cranberry salsa is out of this world. We will be buying more!
Brenda was so informative about the growing to table process. She was animated and you could tell she loves her life as a cranberry farmer. It was interesting to hear the history of the fruits in New Jersey. The other people that were part of the
tour team, Connie, the bus driver, and person who did the food tasting were friendly and added to the enjoyment of the day. I shared the experience with my husband and some friends who were also very impressed with the tour. I would recommend
this for anyone but especially NJ residents; what a history lesson. It also gives you an appreciation of the life of a NJ farmer.
Had been wanting to take this tour for few years. Enjoyed all three parts: presentation, tasting, and bus tour. Wish we could also have had a walking tour to see the actual indoor processing. Also it was a beautiful day.
First of all, we learned a great deal about the cranberry harvest and its history. We also learned a lot about the agriculture of the Pine Barrens and why cranberries, with a lot of TLC and attention, can grow there. Brenda was a font of knowledge. The tasting was fantastic -- so many great recipes that are easy to make (already made the cranberry maple syrup with our pancakes that Sunday!) And watching the men in waders move billions of cranberries through the process (all the while learning about it from a 5th generation cranberry man, Joe, was fascinating. Also learned about Ocean Spray. All in all, a great way to spend a beautiful Saturday morning.
Everything was great - way more than I had expected. Extremely informative, interesting, interactive. Positive energy of the staff made the day.
While I was very impressed and happy with the presentation, I was a bit disappointed not having the chance to get closer to the field and experience harvesting. Friends who visited similar farm apparently had the chance to do so. That said, I do understand your concern and that it may be different kind of operation.
It was much more of a tour than we expected. It was a wonderful blend of how and why it all happens out there in the bogs the way it does. The extra plus, was the tastings that made it easy to stock up to take gifts home. Thank you for this opportunity to mark one off our bucket list:) Just one thing, who is the Jersey devil?
Amazing tour!!!!! They teach you a little history of the farm and history of cranberries. They also explain the technology they use to make the farm efficiently grow cranberries, so that when you go on the tour of the farm you know what you're looking at and why they do what they do.
My family, 2 children and 2 adults, really enjoyed our time on the farm. Brenda was very knowledgeable regarding the history of the farm. Tracie’s delicious creations were amazing! I highly recommend booking a tour with PBNF to learn more about cranberry harvesting and being able to see first hand the harvesting process. Thank you Brenda and all those who work at PBNF.
Lecture was very interesting and informative. Loved the tasting and the cookbook of recipes was a great touch! What a thrill to actually go out into the bogs. Had a lovely morning. A ++
We organized this tour with a group of Master Gardeners of Hunterdon County. Connie Castleman was a delight to work with - she got back to me almost immediately when I had questions and we are leaning toward another tour of the blueberries when Pine Barrens have a date to watch that harvest.
I think I can say honestly, that we all had a blast! We have some great pictures of the harvest and it was just plain fun! The food tasting was terrific - who knew that you could do so many tasty things with cranberries! I know that I now have a new respect for the hard work and all of the manual labor that goes into the harvest----will never look at cranberry sauce the same!!
Thanks for a great day!
Brenda is very knowledgeable, answered all of our questions, and we were incredibly lucky to see the cranberries being harvested. Perfect day, I will absolutely share this experience with friends and encourage them to sign up next fall. Thanks for a great day!!
The talk was very interesting and so well delivered. We saw a lot on the bus tour, capturing the cranberry harvest. And the shop was full of very reasonably priced goodies! AND the samples were delicious and a great incentive to buy the goods in the store!
P.S. It would have been nice to have been able to step out of the bus to take photos. With the bus driver's supervision we should not have made too many footprints. If disease is a problem, we could wear booties.
Very informative and enjoyable.
I wouldn't change a thing
Everything about the experience was most professional yet entertaining. Brenda's presentations before and during the tour were of the highest quality. Lots of information sprinkled with a bit of attitude. The entire staff was well informed, helpful and proficient. I just may do the tour again - I certainly will recommend it to my friends.
Excellent knowledge of the staff. We learned so much considering we hadn't given the cranberry the respect it deserves!!
I just wish we could have stood outside the bus (against the bus) in order to take better photos. Great tour just the same.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our Cranberry Harvest Tour. Brenda gave an exceptional lecture about the development of cranberry farming in the area. Topics included land acquisition, inventions, moving the cranberry (and blueberry) from the wild into a managed crop, historic figures (often her or her husband's relatives) in the cranberry industry, the business side and of course the ins and outs of planting and harvesting. This was followed by a great tour where we saw both the picking and collecting of cranberries in one of their many bogs. And lastly, we were able to enjoy many cranberry dishes from appetizers to desserts. Plus a cookbook including the recipes for these scrumptious morsels was given to us too. Brenda and the rest of the staff were very friendly and happy to answer all of our questions. What a fantastic way to spend several hours on a fall day!
The entire team was knowledgeable and delivered the information in a clear and humorous manner. I saw all aspects of my the cranberry business from its history, production and cooking tips. I left with a greater appreciation of cranberry farmers.
Absolutely wonderful time! Thank you!
Lecture was VERY informative AND fun, the tasting, recipes, and recipe books great, and the tour was awesome...... we got to see the whole process along with the very interesting commentary. The bus was comfortable. All the people involved made even effort to be thoughtful and enthusiastic. Even the mention of what it takes to help employees be their best is an important concept that is too often ignored by employers. We all had an awesome time!
Educational value; we learned about cranberries but maybe more importantly we learned about what a great gift we have in living in the USA. Tour bus was safe, relaxed atmosphere and knowledgeable guide. Blueberry "girl" was good too. Liked the food samples and the chance to buy product.
The tour was well organized and the personnel involved were very informative. The only thing I would strongly recommend is a more permanent type restroom facility.
The historical background and information session was excellent and appreciated. It enhanced the bus tour portion nicely. The tasting and recipe time was well organized and very enjoyable.
It was very informative, sampling was wonderful and tour was great. I have it posted on Facebook and have told everyone they should do it!
Brenda's presentation as well as the tour of the Boggs to see the operation in action were very informative and interesting.
My wife is looking forward to using the new recipe's during the upcoming holiday's.
