• Capriana Monastery - In the morning, the journey begins to Capriana Monastery, located in one of the most scenic areas of the Codrii reservation, 40 km from Chișinău. This site is home to one of Moldova’s oldest monasteries, Căpriana, established in 1429. Nestled at the edge of a vast forest between the villages of Straseni and Capriana, it was founded in the 15th century during the reign of Alexandru cel Bun and later reconstructed by Stefan the Great in 1470. The complex features the Churches of the Virgin’s Assumption (1545), Saint Nicholas (1840), and Saint George (1907), which are adjacent to the abbot’s house, the refectory, and cells. The oldest is the Virgin’s Assumption Church, founded by Petru Rares. After its reconstruction in 1820 by Metropolitan G. Banulescu-Bodoni, only the decorative apses with arcature and the walls down to the socle level remained unchanged. During construction, a bell tower with a pyramidal roof and an octagonal dome with a bulbous turret over the naos were added.
