With a history influenced by Viking, medieval, and later periods, the castle is one of the most iconic landmarks on the Antrim Coast.
Its rugged location overlooking the North Atlantic has made it famous not only in Irish history but also in popular culture, appearing in Game of Thrones as Pyke and inspiring C.S. Lewis in The Chronicles of Narnia.
Please note: this is a photo stop only. Entry to the castle is not included, but there will be time to take photos and enjoy the views.
- Giant’s Causeway - Discover the heart of Ireland’s ancient mythological landscape at the otherworldly Giant’s Causeway. Some say that ‘Nature doesn’t work in straight lines,’ but those who do have never visited the Giant’s Causeway. It features over 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, most hexagonal in shape with up to 8 sides. Walk among the great pillars of what was once an epic bridge to Scotland, constructed by none other than Finn McCool! Legend has it that this bridge stretched all the way to Scotland, built by Finn when he wanted to challenge a fierce Scottish giant! This magnificent landscape indeed looks like it was crafted by a giant, but it is entirely naturally formed by the slow cooling of lava from an eruption millions of years ago. Recognized as one of the top 100 geological heritage sites worldwide, it is a must-see for everyone.
- The Dark Hedges - Known as one of the most iconic roads in Ireland. Established around 1775, this avenue leads to Gracehill House. The beech trees arch over the road to form an atmospheric tunnel filled with the creaking of beams and the dappled light filtering through the canopy above. It can be a spooky experience at the Dark Hedges, as they are said to be haunted by a mysterious ghost known as The Grey Lady. The Dark Hedges gained worldwide fame by being featured in Game of Thrones as the King’s Road! It’s not all fantasy here, as they were also featured in the 2017 movie Transformers: The Last Knight. Whether it’s Autobots, ghosts, King Robert Baratheon, or just the chance to stroll down this beautiful avenue, The Dark Hedges has what you seek.
- Titanic Belfast - After a drive through the famous Glens of Antrim, the tour continues through Belfast city to the Titanic Museum. Located at the former site of the Harland & Wolff Shipyard, right next to the very dry dock where the RMS Titanic was constructed, this museum tells the story of the world’s most famous ship from its inception in the minds of J. Bruce Ismay and Edward James Harland to its ill-fated maiden voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. This museum not only tells the story of the Titanic but also of Belfast, the city that built the most renowned vessel to ever float. From the rise of Belfast as a shipbuilding city to the slow decline of the Titanic as she sank into the abyssal depths where the wreck still rests today, this museum immerses you in every step of this spectacular story.
- Belfast - For the final stop on the tour, visitors will explore Belfast city center before returning to Dublin. This area has been inhabited since the Bronze Age. Having been at the forefront of many parts of Irish history, it is hard to know where to begin, so be sure to ask the guide! The drop-off will be right by Belfast City Hall, with enough time to grab some snacks for the road home or maybe even enjoy a quick pint! Take a brief wander around the city hall and its surroundings before returning to the coach for the journey back to Dublin.
