- Braulio Carrillo National Park - Situated on the north side of Central Valley in the Central Volcanic Range, nestled between the massifs of Póas and Irazú Volcanoes. This magnificent natural gem encompasses the Barva and Cacho Negro volcanoes, stretching from Alto de la Palma in the north of Moravia Canton to the La Selva Protected Zone in Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui.
The park reaches a maximum elevation of 9,534 feet (2,906 m) above sea level at the summit of Barva Volcano, with temperatures ranging from a minimum of 37.4°F (3°C) to a maximum of 75.6°F (24°C). The park’s extensive altitudinal gradient results in varied precipitation, ranging from 8.2 feet (2,500 mm) on the slopes facing the Central Valley to 18.8 feet (5,734 mm) on the Caribbean slope.
Braulio Carrillo National Park is one of Costa Rica’s largest protected areas, covering 50,000 hectares, and is located in one of the country’s most rugged terrains.
