Visitors to this National Park, situated 19.2 miles (31 km) from Cartago city, primarily come to observe the volcano’s craters. The park is set in a picturesque mountain landscape, characterized by low vegetation and a very wet and cold climate, often shrouded in fog.
On clear days, the view from the summit includes both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, a large portion of the national territory, and with a telescope, even Nicaragua’s Lake.
Reaching a maximum elevation of 11,260 feet (3,432 m) above sea level, it stands as Costa Rica’s highest volcano.
