Setting Sail on a Double-Decker Dream

The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as I boarded the double-decker pontoon boat in Coron, Palawan. The anticipation of a full day on the water was palpable, and I could feel the excitement bubbling up inside me. As a marine biologist, I’ve spent countless hours on the ocean, but this was different. This was a chance to explore the stunning beauty of Coron from the comfort of a floating paradise.

The boat was spacious, with comfortable seating and sun shields that promised a stress-free day at sea. As we set off, the gentle rocking of the boat and the sound of the waves created a calming rhythm that set the tone for the day. The upper deck was perfect for sunbathing, and I couldn’t resist the urge to stretch out and soak up the sun’s warm rays.

Our first stop was Kayangan Lake, known as the cleanest lake in Asia. The emerald-colored waters were crystal clear, and the towering limestone mountains surrounding the lake created a breathtaking backdrop. As I swam in the refreshing water, I couldn’t help but marvel at the natural beauty that surrounded me. Exploring Hidden Gems

After a leisurely swim, we continued our journey to Barracuda Lake. The short climb over the jagged, rocky wall was well worth the effort. The lake’s unique layers of fresh, salt, and brackish water created dramatic temperature shifts that were fascinating to experience. As I dove beneath the surface, I could feel the water’s warmth enveloping me, a stark contrast to the cooler layers above.

The next stop was the Twin Lagoon, where the warm water from the open sea met the pure water from the subterranean river. The contrast between the two bodies of water was mesmerizing, and I found myself captivated by the ever-changing colors and temperatures. As we made our way to the Coral Garden, I was eager to explore the vibrant underwater world that awaited us. A Day to Remember

Our final stop was the Skeleton Wreck, a 25-meter-long Japanese supply ship that was hit by an airstrike during WWII. The ship now rests at a depth of 5 meters, making it an ideal spot for free-diving or snorkeling. As I explored the wreck, I couldn’t help but think about the history that lay beneath the surface. It was a poignant reminder of the past and a testament to the resilience of the ocean.

As the day came to a close, we made our way to Banul Beach, where we enjoyed a delicious lunch on the white sandy shores. The brilliant blue waters and sheer cliffs provided the perfect backdrop for a relaxing afternoon. As I sat on the beach, I reflected on the day’s adventures and the memories that had been made.
