The weather, tide, and surf conditions will determine whether surfing or coasteering is scheduled for the morning or afternoon, so be prepared for either. The description below provides a typical itinerary.
After meeting everyone, it’s time to grab a wetsuit and surfboard for the first surf lesson of the weekend. Whether experienced or a beginner, surf coaches are available to offer advice and guidance throughout the lesson.
95% of participants are new to surfing, so don’t worry if it’s your first time – you’ll be in good company!
Newquay - After lunch, it’s time for the afternoon activity, coasteering. Once the group is equipped, take a short walk to the coasteering location, known as the ‘Gazzle’.
Don’t worry if you’re not confident in the sea or have never tried coasteering before; the knowledgeable guide will explain and demonstrate all the skills needed for a fantastic coasteering experience.
WHAT IS COASTEERING?
Coasteering is an exciting and dynamic activity that includes elements such as wild swimming, low-level traversing, and deep water cliff jumps.
It also involves scrambling up gullies, swimming through sluices, getting washed around in whirlpools, exploring large caves, or learning about local fauna and flora.
Coasteering is influenced by the tide, sea state, and group ability. Session times are set to reflect the best tide conditions, ensuring the best coasteering experience possible.
Cornish Wave | Coasteering, Surfing & Adventure in Newquay - After the day’s water activities, there’s time to gather belongings for the evening and visit the supermarket across from the base before leaving in convoy to the wild campsite.
BBQ food and a couple of favorite drinks are recommended; the rest will be provided. For those without transport, lift shares with other group members can be arranged.
The wild camp is a lovingly crafted space in private woodlands on a working dairy farm in the heart of Cornwall. After a quick camp introduction, settle into the shared Bell tent (air bed & pillow provided) before evening activities begin. With axe throwing, balance games, and fire-making skills, there’s plenty to keep entertained throughout the evening.
End the night with stories around the campfire, roasting marshmallows, or enjoying a favorite drink before sleeping soundly under the stars.
Day 3
Newquay - Sunday morning starts with tea, coffee, simple cereals, and fruit. If there are personal dietary requirements or a need for something more substantial, please bring it along.
After breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye to the wild camp and return to Newquay, don a wetsuit, and hit the Cornish waves one last time.
The second surf lesson builds on the previous day’s experience – today is all about having fun in the surf! After a general overview of surf conditions and a recap of the fundamentals, it’s straight into the ocean to make the most of the time in the sea – coaches are always on hand, providing personal feedback and goals to aim for in surfing.
By 1pm, everyone is typically surfed out, and with the appetite for adventure satisfied, it’s time to say fond farewells…
