The foundation stone was laid on August 15, 1859, and the church was opened for worship on June 29, 1864.
The church is constructed of red sandstone with limestone dressings. The roof’s ridge is adorned with ornamental ironwork, partially gilded, and ends at the western gable with an ornamental cross featuring foliated arms.
