Halloween fun with Wanda the Witch - We had an absolutely brilliant time at Cork City Gaol this morning for their family Halloween event. Wanda the Witch was truly fantastic and kept the kids (and adults) cackling 🧙♀️with laughter the whole way through. I would definitely recommend this as something to do with the kids, for Halloween and in general. Well done Wanda 👏 😁

Excellent few hours spent here - definitely worth a visit - Excellent 2 hours spent at the goal. We booked the visit with the book but upgraded for €2 for the audio which was well worth the extra. Very factual and interesting. Clean and well looked after, not too busy so could move around easily. It was a lovely day so we also managed to walk the grounds, which weren’t extensive but nice to see Highly recommend this place

Should do, not a must do. - Well done, self paced. If you are a plaque reader, you will learn a lot. Otherwise… yep,, it’s an old jail!

What a great time we had at Cork City Gaol - While I didn’t use the guidebook we were provided with a map of the gaol which has a number of points listed on it.
There are detailed explanations in respect of these points and made all the more interesting by figures and audio visual exhibitions and models, and they all provide a fascinating insight into the penal system there at the time the prison was open.
The guides are helpful and the grounds make for a very interesting walk around once the interior has been viewed.
I would highly recommend a visit, especially if you’ve an interest in criminology and the penal system. I might add this is great for families too!

Horrifyingly educational - This building served as a prison for about 100 years ending in the early 1920s. The guidebook takes you through the prison systematically telling tales of the former inmates, the staff, and the punishments. There is also a second floor presentation about early radio service in Ireland (housed there after it ceased being a prison). There are some interactive activities and a 20 minute film, toward the end of your self-guided tour, that is presented against the stone walls of the building. Plan accordingly if you want to take the time needed for that feature.

Worth the time spent - Not an excessive price for the attraction it is. Had a guided tour by a lady who presented the history very well, interesting and entertaining. Interesting stories told, interesting things to see and learn about, probably a 50 walk from the city centre, but a pleasant walk if not raining!!

Very interesting self... - Very interesting self guided tour. Learned a lot and it was well done. The stories of actual prisoners was a nice touch.

Not great for powered wheelchairs sadly - Great history, we went with a powered wheelchair, staff were great about opening gates for us to park close and to access, however whilst I knew I couldn’t get upstairs, I hadn’t expected not to be able to enter the cells either due to narrowness of doorways (may be better for a manual chair.). Staff were amazing, the zany Jennifer (Jenny from the cell Block) was great fun and made the visit!

Really interesting but Disabled visitors beware. - Really informative visitor attraction, with subjects to appeal to families as well as adults.
I would hope that other areas could be opened up, and greater explanation of how the grounds were used. There really is scope for so much more.
On the positive side, every team member encountered after the admissions desk, was incredibly informative and helpful. I say that because:-
On the negative side: as an obviously physically disabled visitor, absolutely no access assistance was offered. Even when I pointed out the conundrum of disabled parking spaces immediately adjacent to the flight of steep stone stairs to access the Gaol.
I further prompted, asking about access to the main buildings.
The response was that I would have to navigate the flight of stairs to get through the gardens.
This flight of NINETEEN stairs poses considerable challenges if, like me, you have mobility issues. I later learned that the facility is prepared to offer vehicular acces- if you are in a wheelchair. Obviously having severely restricted walking capacity and almost no abilities to climb stairs (at least one of which had no handrails, that being at the front of the main building before the governor office) was insufficient to prompt any offer of assistance from reception staff.
I was assured that I would miss very little by being deprived of the chances to visit first and second floors.
The gift shop was very reasonably priced and worth looking through. I can't help feeling that an actual coffee shop facility would be better received. Not least because a seat to enjoy a hot drink would be much appreciated after the exercise taken.
Overwhelming recommendation has to be- Disabled visitors think carefully and don't go unless you've called or emailed to secure access assistance. Sadly for me, this was an unplanned visit, and one which I will take a few days to rest and recover from.

Girl with glasses - Great expirerence and reasonable pricing.
Only issue was the girl ( small with glasses) working in arrival. I had arrived after a long bus journey and needed the bath room. She point blank refused me until she found out I was paying. As I. Was finishing the tour and leaving a young man came in and polity asked to use the bathroom to which she refused. He pleaded thst there was no where in the area he coukd use and said he had been to the jail on many times and to the Harry Potter showing in the summer. She still would not let him .
Left a sour taste after a nice experience.
