As the sun rises over the Peloponnese, casting a golden hue over the ancient city of Corinth, travelers are invited to embark on a journey through time. The weather is perfect for exploration, with clear skies and a gentle breeze accompanying your steps. Begin your day with a Corinthian Adventure tour, which starts as early as 7:00 AM. This private full-day tour from Athens offers a luxurious ride along the Saronic Gulf, where the shimmering waters meet the sky.
Upon arrival in Corinth, the ancient ruins beckon. The city, once a powerful center of trade and culture, is rich with history. The Corinth Canal, a marvel of engineering, slices through the isthmus, offering breathtaking views from above. As you stand on the bridge, the steep limestone walls and the vessels navigating below create a scene of timeless beauty.
The tour continues to the Acrocorinth, the ancient fortress that has stood the test of time. Here, the echoes of Apostle Paul’s teachings can almost be heard in the wind. The day culminates with a visit to a family-run olive oil mill, where the art of olive oil production is revealed. Sample the finest extra virgin olive oil and learn about the ancestral olive plantations that have been nurtured for generations.
“Beautiful day in Corinth. - Great tour! Our driver and guide, Giorgos, was fantastic. He was very knowledgeable, courteous and helpful. The olive oil tour and tasting was the highlight of the tour. Nikos at the beautiful Markellos olive oil factory was an excellent and informative guide. We learned so much about olive oil! This was an overall 5 star experience.” - Reviewed on 2024-10-29
Culinary Delights: Tasting the Essence of Corinth
As the afternoon sun casts long shadows over the ancient stones, it’s time to indulge in the culinary delights of Corinth. The Olive Oil Odyssey offers a unique opportunity to taste the region’s finest olive oils. Starting at 7:30 AM, this tour takes you from Athens to the heart of Corinth and Perachora, where the olive groves stretch as far as the eye can see.
The journey begins with a stop at the Corinth Canal, where the views are nothing short of spectacular. As you continue to Ancient Corinth, the remnants of the Roman Agora and the Temple of Apollo stand as silent witnesses to the past. The tour then leads you to Loutraki, where the KALLIELIO family business has been producing olive oil since 1967. Here, you can taste a variety of olives and olive oils, each with its own distinct flavor and story.
The highlight of the tour is the visit to the Sanctuary of Hera in Perachora. This ancient site, dedicated to the goddess Hera, offers a glimpse into the spiritual life of ancient Greece. The stone lighthouse at the cape of the peninsula provides a perfect backdrop for reflection and appreciation of the natural beauty that surrounds you.
“Do this 👍 - We booked for a taxi driver and we got a saviour instead. Christos, the man of many wonderful mannerisms and a catalogue of space and time. He knew the distance and time it took to go to random places we named. We went to the Corinth Canal where we stared out to the water and experienced severe vertigo on a rusty bridge. We dodged the swarm of tourists by going to the other side of the bridge. Then the main event, the olive oil tasting. We stopped at Kalieleon, this local olive oil factory where we met the most energetic 80 year old that lived off the stuff (literally bathed in it). Sampled a bunch olive oil (not the one he bathed in). After tasting about a pint of olive oil with bread on the side, we went to the gift shop as we watched this guy wash himself in front of us as a marketing stunt. It worked as we probably bought half his shop. Full of olive oil, bread and the promise of longevity, we went to this beautiful lake for a quick dip.” - Reviewed on 2023-10-25
