- Gammeltorv - Known in English as the “Old Square,” Gammeltorv is the oldest square in Copenhagen, serving as a marketplace since the 1100s.
- Plaza Nytorv - Opposite Gammeltorv is Nytorv, or “New Square,” showcasing Danish innovation. It was here that butchers worked, while sales occurred at Gammeltorv.
- Church of Our Lady - Copenhagen Cathedral - The Church of Our Lady (Vor Frue Kirke) is Denmark’s National Cathedral. Rebuilt four times, the current structure is where King Frederik and Queen Mary were married on May 14th, 2004.
- University of Copenhagen - As one of the oldest universities in northern Europe, the University of Copenhagen initially had four faculties: theology, law, medicine, and philosophy. By the early 2000s, it was Denmark’s largest educational institution, with 37,000 students and over 7,000 staff.
- Rundetarn - The Rundetårn, or “Round Tower,” is the oldest functioning observatory in Europe. King Frederik II of Denmark and Norway was the first monarch to show interest in astronomy, inspired by the renowned Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe.
- Gråbrødretorv - Gråbrødetorv, or “The Grey Friars Square,” is named after the Franciscan monastery that once stood there. Although many houses were destroyed in the Great Fire of 1728, those that survived were restored and painted in modern colors, making it a perfect spot for photos!
- Stroeget - Strøget is Copenhagen’s and one of Europe’s longest pedestrian streets, stretching 1.11 kilometers. Renowned for its shopping, it begins at the Town Hall and ends at Kongens Nytorv near Nyhavn, offering a vast array of shops.

Interesting Walk - Ulf was our guide, who was very knowledgeable and being a local was able to add his own insight to the walk, which was undertaken at a brisk pace. Learning the history and background to the old town was interesting. Would highly recommended.
