The Jewish community in Rio de Janeiro traces its origins back to the arrival of the first Portuguese explorers in the 1500s. Since that time, Jewish immigration has been a continuous process, largely due to the support of Emperor D. Pedro II, a great admirer of Jewish culture. This tour highlights the key attractions of Jewish heritage in Rio de Janeiro, guided by knowledgeable experts.
If possible, in addition to the listed attractions, there will be plans to visit the Beth El Synagogue and the Clube Israelita Brasileiro in Copacabana, which maintain a community pharmacy to assist those in need.
Note: The Beth Yaacov Synagogue (following the Eastern-European Ashkenazi rite) in Copacabana and the Beit Lubavitch Synagogue (Orthodox Chasidic rite) in Leblon can be visited as alternatives to other synagogues, based on client preferences.
