Riding the Waves at Kirra Beach

As a professional surfer who’s spent years chasing the perfect wave across Central America, I thought I’d seen it all. But when I heard about the Private Surf Lessons in Coolangatta, I knew I had to experience it for myself. Kirra Beach, with its iconic surf spot status, was calling my name.

Arriving at Kirra Beach, I was immediately struck by the vibrant energy of the place. The sun was shining, the waves were rolling in, and the air was filled with the sound of laughter and excitement. It was Easter school holidays, and the beach was alive with families and surfers of all ages.

I met James, the owner, who welcomed me with open arms. His passion for surfing was infectious, and I could see why this place was so highly recommended. The instructors, each with their own unique style, were ready to share their love for the ocean with everyone, from first-timers to seasoned surfers like myself.

A Week of Surfing Bliss

I decided to join a group lesson, eager to see how the instructors worked their magic. Among the group were two young boys, aged 8 and 5, who were about to embark on their own surfing journey. Their excitement was palpable, and I couldn’t help but smile as I watched them take to the waves.

Luis, one of the instructors, took the 8-year-old under his wing. With patience and encouragement, he guided the young surfer through each wave, turning what was once a 6.5/10 experience into a full-blown passion. By the end of the week, the boy was hooked, dreaming of surfing day and night.

Meanwhile, the 5-year-old was having the time of his life with Enico, another fantastic instructor. Enico’s kindness and enthusiasm made the lessons fun and engaging, and it was clear that the young boy adored him. Watching him pop up on his board with a huge grin on his face was a reminder of why I fell in love with surfing in the first place.

A Surfing Experience to Remember

As the week came to an end, I reflected on the incredible experience I had at Kirra Beach. The instructors’ dedication and passion for teaching were truly inspiring, and it was heartwarming to see the impact they had on the young surfers.

For me, it was a chance to reconnect with the pure joy of surfing, to feel the sun on my skin and the salt in my hair, and to share in the excitement of those discovering the ocean for the first time.
