When I heard about the Portuguese Cuisine Challenge with Chef Heitor in Porto, I knew it was something I had to try. The idea of diving into the heart of Portuguese cuisine, learning from a renowned chef, and perhaps even bringing back some new recipes to share with my kids was too tempting to resist.

Upon arrival at Chef Heitor’s private kitchen, we were greeted with a warm smile and a glass of sparkling wine. It was 10:30 in the morning, but as they say, it’s five o’clock somewhere! The kitchen was cozy and inviting, with all the ingredients neatly laid out, ready for us to begin our culinary adventure. Chef Heitor’s passion for Portuguese cuisine was evident as he explained the history and techniques behind each dish we were about to prepare.

Cooking Up a Storm

The cooking session began with dessert, an orange cake that needed time to bake and cool. The aroma of fresh oranges filled the kitchen, and I couldn’t help but think how much my kids would love this cake. Next, we moved on to the main dishes, starting with Bacalhau com broa, a traditional codfish dish with a cornbread crust.
