Constantine, alternatively referred to as Qasentina, serves as the administrative center of the Constantine Province in Algeria’s northern region. It is often dubbed the City of Bridges due to its captivating landscape, situated atop a high plateau, 640 meters above sea level, nearly encircled by steep gorges with the Rhumel River slicing through. Steeped in historical significance, Constantine’s origins date back to the Phoenician era, who called it Sewa (meaning ‘royal city’). Subsequently, the city became part of Numidia, where it was known as Cirta, until it was conquered by the Romans and renamed in honor of Emperor Constantine the Great.
