Stunning views & perfect temperature, with a variety of scrumptious food . - My first time ever travelling, I traveled on my own. I choose Indonesia, my first place was Tuk Tuk on lake Toba in Sumatra. I had been travelling for 38hrs non stop, i was extremely exhausted as I have insomnia, but also extremely excited for my adventure ahead. As I approached the ferry port in Parapat a small Indonesian man with only 1 front tooth shouted to me " ferry to Tuk Tuk? " so I gathered speed wearily & excited with my carry on back pack which felt heavy that morning . He rushed me onto the ferry past the kiosk & said "you pay on ferry" he charged me 200.000 Rupiah, which later that day I found out the cost was only 25 000 Rupiah! So he pocketed 175 000 Rupiah from me! I was tired vulnerable & not yet grasped the currency. He then kept asking me for money said he didn't have a job. I told him I had lost my job & used all my savings so I could travel for the first time! While he kept badgering me for more money I was absolutely amazed by the sheer beauty of Lake Toba, it was stunningly beautiful , the hills on a backdrop of very low dramatic clouds, and artists dream! The pleasant warmth of the perfect temperature. I loved the happy relaxed atmosphere of Tuk Tuk so much I stayed for 5 days exploring the island both on foot & on motorbike i hired very cheaply 100 000 Rupiah a day. A very unique place indeed. I met lots of very freindy lovely locals who always happy & smiling and love to stop & chat in their endearing broken English. The food both fresh fruit & restaurants were scrumptious and met every expectation and more. Definitely a place I would recommend . Although I do feel a bit cross I was ripped off at the ferry, i learnt to do my research on prices! Happy visiting 😊
