Sailing in Style: A Luxurious Catamaran Adventure in St. Maarten
When the allure of the ocean calls, there’s no better way to answer than with a day aboard a luxury catamaran in St. Maarten. Join me as I recount my unforgettable experience exploring hidden beaches and savoring gourmet delights on the pristine waters of the Caribbean.
Setting Sail on “Freedom”
The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as I made my way to the Port de Plaisance Yacht Club in Cole Bay. The anticipation of a day spent on the water, exploring the hidden gems of St. Maarten, had me buzzing with excitement. As a former professional surfer, the ocean has always been my playground, and today, I was about to experience it in a whole new way aboard the luxurious catamaran, “Freedom.”
Upon arrival, I was greeted by the warm smiles of Captain Andre and Diane, our hostess for the day. Their genuine hospitality set the tone for what would be an unforgettable adventure. As I slipped off my sandals and stepped onto the immaculate teak deck, I was handed a cool scented towel and a decadent handmade chocolate. With a mimosa in hand, I settled into one of the plush lounge areas, ready to embark on this all-inclusive sailing experience.
Exploring Hidden Beaches and Coves
Our journey began with a leisurely sail towards the French side of the island, where we anchored at the secluded Happy Bay Beach. Surrounded by 360° of natural beauty, I couldn’t resist the call of the crystal-clear waters. Armed with snorkel gear and a stand-up paddleboard, I dove into the ocean, eager to explore the vibrant marine life below.
The crew had thought of everything, providing noodles for floating, a lily pad for lounging, and even towels and sunscreen for our use. After a refreshing swim, we were treated to a Mediterranean-style lunch, complete with grilled chicken and shrimp, a Greek salad, and baked potatoes. The flavors were as vibrant as the scenery, and I savored every bite while soaking up the sun.
As we continued our sail, we visited several other beaches and coves, each more breathtaking than the last. Some of these hidden spots were only accessible by boat, making the experience all the more special. With each stop, I felt a deeper connection to the island and its natural beauty, a feeling that only the ocean can provide.
A Perfect Day on the Water
Our final destination was the famous Maho Beach, where we had a front-row view of planes landing just overhead. It was a thrilling sight, and I couldn’t help but marvel at the juxtaposition of nature and technology. As the day drew to a close, we made our way back through the Simpson Bay Bridge, waving to onlookers as we returned to the yacht club.
Throughout the day, Diane and Andre went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and enjoyment. From the outstanding breakfast with champagne to the homemade chocolate chip cookies that ended our day, every detail was thoughtfully curated. Their passion for what they do was evident, and it made the experience all the more memorable.
For anyone seeking a perfectly relaxing and laid-back day on the water, I can’t recommend this luxury catamaran experience enough. It’s a chance to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and reconnect with the ocean in the most luxurious way possible. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
