Soaring Above the Valleys

The thrill of paragliding is something that never gets old, even for a seasoned adrenaline junkie like myself. As we drove from Medellin to Cocorná, the anticipation was palpable. The journey took us through lush landscapes, each turn revealing a new vista more breathtaking than the last. Our guide, Juan, was a fountain of knowledge, sharing insights about the region and its unique weather patterns. He assured us that the conditions were perfect for flying, and I could feel the excitement building.

Arriving at the launch site, I was greeted by the sight of the giant waterfalls cascading down the cliffs. Juan, ever the resourceful guide, led us through a scenic backcountry route, bypassing the Easter traffic that had clogged the main roads. As we approached the rock, its sheer size was both daunting and inviting.

The climb to the top was a test of endurance, but the reward was well worth the effort. In just 15 minutes, we reached the summit, greeted by panoramic views that stretched as far as the eye could see. The vibrant colors of the landscape were a feast for the senses, and we celebrated our ascent with a refreshing michelada. The descent was a leisurely affair, allowing us to savor the experience and reflect on the beauty of the region.

Exploring Guatape’s Vibrant Streets

With our energy levels replenished, we set off to explore the charming town of Guatape. Known for its colorful buildings and lively atmosphere, it was the perfect place to unwind after a day of adventure. Although we had planned a walking tour, the comfort of Juan’s air-conditioned SUV was too tempting to resist. As we cruised through the streets, Juan regaled us with stories of the town’s history and culture, his passion for the area evident in every word.

Our final stop was El Alto de Chocho, a delightful petting zoo where we mingled with llamas, alpacas, and other friendly creatures. Feeding them carrots was a highlight, their eager faces bringing smiles to everyone around. As the sun began to set, we indulged in a treat of strawberries and cream, a sweet ending to a perfect day.
