Must see prison/military encampment - With tour guide Raymond we learned so much about the history of Ireland as well as the history of Spike Island. Through genuine history and hilarious story telling I was captured for the 45min tour. Then we got to walk around on our own to tour what interested us. As a person who likes to read things, the 3.5h we had was not enough. But I definitely got a good sense and got to see some really cool buildings, museums and living history. Well recommended.

brilliant! - fascinating trip - our guide Orlaith was very engaging! boat trip over was smooth and arrived on time with enough seats for everyone. some elements of the prison can’t be entered at the minute such as little nellies house.. it would be great to see some investment in this place to recreate the history this place has to tell

Spike Island tour - Had a great time on Spike Island, short boat ride to the island and had time for a walk around the island before the tour. Tour guide Raymond was very knowledgeable and gave us a short rundown on the history of the island and fort. 10/10 would recommend and I may have to return as the conservation and restoration efforts are ongoing.

Fascinating visit to Spike Island - This is a brilliant very well organised trip that explains so much about Irish history and brings to life the very tough life of so many people. The guides are very knowledgeable and entertaining with lots of anecdotes. Besides the prison, visit the village where you get a flavour of what home life must have been like there and the close knot community it was. 3.5 hours is just about enough time to see it all and there is also a nice cafe for snacks etc plus a jolly boat trip to reach the island. Dont dither make sure you visit Spike Island!

Great guided tour of Spike Island - The logistics to get to Spike Island were very smooth, well organised and perfectly on time. The facilities on the island are fairly average, but the site itself is very well preserved and really nice to wander around. The exhibitions are interesting, but what truly made the trip worthwhile was the guided tour with Euan. He is an amazing storyteller, with great energy and lots of fascinating anecdotes that really bring the history of the island to life. Definitely recommend joining the guided tour while you’re there!

Good and Detailed tour - Very fascinating and detailed tour, fair amount of walking if elderly but they provide options. There’s a part of the tour where they discuss the famine and I felt it minimised that it was a genocide and put it simply down to a potato blight and that there was no food. I think it’s general knowledge now that they were exported and we should be open about this especially as there are tourists who may not be aware of this.
