The journey begins in the picturesque town of Salento, where participants will gather for a delightful breakfast before departing via special transport to the Cocora Valley. The logistics team will handle the transportation of luggage using mules. Participants will receive a technical briefing from the authorities of National Parks Colombia. The adventure then commences, exploring the enchanting Cocora Valley, its forests, and high-Andean vegetation, leading to the entrance of the Natural Park Los Nevados. Short breaks will be taken to recharge energy, aiming to reach the first refuge, “La Playa” estate, situated at an altitude of 3,750 meters.
Day 2
Shelter at La Playa - Acclimatization - Return to the refuge
A 7 km hike reaching an altitude of 4,300 meters.
Day 3
The trek begins at 11 pm, aiming to reach the summit of Nevado del Tolima from the shelter.
From the shelter to the summit - 11 km reaching 5,220 meters in altitude.
Total distance: 22 km
Day 4
Return from the La Playa refuge to the Cocora Valley, retracing the path from Day 1: 18 km.
The journey concludes with a lunch in Salento.
