You learn so much about the ecology of the area and the vital role that preservation of the mangrove swamp plays in our survival in SW Florida.
Excellent Naturealist and Captain.
It was a wonderful way to see and learn about the waters of Rookery Bay. Our guides were humorous and informative, hitting all the high spots about the area and the animals/birds/mammals/plants that live in this protected reserve. The sunset was beautiful and it was time well spent. Thank you for a great tour.
Saw lots of wildlife
The Captain and the Naturalist were both very well spoken and very knowledgeable. The microphone worked well which was not the caase in past cruises I was on. We saw many more birds and dolphins than I had seen on previous trips in past years. The specimens passed around to the passengers have been upgraded and are very life like. I know a few were real life specimens. When birds were spotted the Captain went right to that area and gave the passengers good photo opportunities and some time to observe. The beautiful sunset topped off a really nice cruise. It was the best one I have ever been on. I will definitely be taking future friends and visitors on the cruise.
Very informative evening with excellent guides. Only disappointing (other than cloudy evening) factor was the microphone for sound system not being charged. Made it difficult to hear the naturalist much of the time.
The sound system was poor, volunteer naturalist’s voice kept going in and out. Very frustrating to those of us at the other end of the boat. We just gave up trying to follow his dialog.
The only real issue we had with the trip was all about of the speed boats that were going by at high rates of speed. Recommend minimizing the amount of time in the main channel during the trip.
Every thing went well boat was fine saw lots of birds
We loved it! Very informative, very beautiful!
Excellent cruise. Wonderful commentary by Mary. Lots of great information. Captain Buddy was a terrific boat captain too. I would highly recommend this cruise. Next time we will try the lunch cruise. Many thanks to all concerned.
Mary was really informative, conversational, and enthusiastic. We would like to go again next year it was so great.
Beautiful evening! Top notch captain and guide.
Felt the boat trip was a little too long and the naturalist's microphone was not working most of the time.
We have enjoyed Good Fortune trips many times, but Dan's presentation, which was more of a conversation, was rated the best yet by my husband.
Captain Buddy and Naturalist Bette did a great job of guiding us through the interesting birds, habitats and history of the area. Buddy kept reminding Bette to hold the (headset)microphone to her mouth because most couldn't hear her. But as she explained the next bird siting, she'd forget and use both hands in gestures. The microphone was an issue when we did this same cruise a couple of months ago. Need to work on this - either the equipment or the training on how to use it.
My husband and I really, really enjoyed our experience, and truly appreciated the collective knowledge-sharing from the guides - all of them full of information and obvious passionate concern & care for this incredible environment. They set the tone on the boat, which was casual and very friendly, like a small group of friends going out on a boat - and some of those friends happen to know A LOT about the birds, the flora, the ways this environment is impacted and how important conservation is. The awe-inspiring highlight at sunset of watching thousands of birds come in to roost on the little island is something to experience at least once in your life!
The guides were excellent
Very knowledgeable and friendly
Mary was very knowledgeable and made the cruise very interesting. The Captain was just as nice and knowledgeable. We would definitely recommend the trip.
Knowledgeable guide. Lots of wild life. Spectacular sunset

The cruise was spectacular! The sunset couple with the thousands of birds in flight was unbelievable. What a fantastic experience!
Beautiful afternoon on the water. Naturalist was knowledgeable. Saw 3 bald eagles, and many pairs of nesting birds feeding their young. Island where birds congregate at sunset was spectacular. Really great trip.
Ranked among the best of the eco tours this trip (Big Pine Key, Marathon, Key Largo, Everglades city). This is our second Sunset Adventure and always great. Will do again next trip.
The one naturalist (Debra) was more interested in getting her own pictures than allowing the paying customers to get their pictures. She stood on the side of the boat in a prime photo op spot. The boat was a bit over crowded also. Captain Buddy and the other naturalist, Mary were excellent.
The cruise is gentle and informative. There is a magical view of the rookery and the wildlife along the way.
Kevin was most accommodating when I was making our reservations and then again when I had to change them. The boat was clean and we left on time. The naturalist was outstanding! She was informative and knowledgeable. This was our second time on the "Good Fortune" and we brought another couple. We have other family members coming this winter but I don't think we will be taking them on the trip. We feel that it's is too expensive. Even as members of the Conservancy, close to $40 a ticket is expensive to do more than once as a family. Sandra and Ken Gittings
.My sister in law, from Massachusetts enjoyed the cruise very much ! Lots of great photos taken especially when you see all the birds flying to the rookery at sunset. That is our favorite part of the adventure !.Both our husbands were unable to attend this time even though we had booked the adventure earlier. They both have been in the past and enjoyed the luncheon cruise as well as the sunset one. I have spread the word to some of my friends , Thank you again, Hope to see you next year. Best regards, Sandra Miguel
The experience for Robert and his two daughters brought them new insights to our land, environment, our wild life and our waters here in SW Florida. Since the two girls were raised in Maine, this was a most wonderful adventure!!!!
Everything we saw and experienced was phenomenal!
Both Captain Buddy & Kevin were exceptionally knowledgeable and enhanced our experiencr
Judy was an excellent guide. She knew a great deal and was able to answer any question. It would have been even better if the microphone was working.
Fascinating, well conducted tour with good leaders.
The Lack of microphone resulted in chaos
