A nationally licensed tour guide, who is also a skilled sushi instructor, will guide participants through the vibrant Tsukiji Outer Market. During the tour, fresh ingredients like tuna, sashimi, and wasabi will be purchased.
After approximately an hour, the group will take the subway to the instructor’s home, where participants will prepare sushi rice, slice tuna, grate wasabi, and cut seaweed. They will then create three types of sushi: maki (rolled), nigiri (hand-shaped), and gunkan (boat-shaped).
Participants will enjoy their handmade sushi with miso soup prepared by the instructor.
The class is held at the instructor’s home, which offers a beautiful view and is directly connected to Higashi-Ikebukuro Station.
After the sushi experience, participants can enjoy shopping at nearby Pokémon and Hello Kitty stores, which are popular with visitors. Ikebukuro Station is a 10-minute walk away, providing easy access to major Tokyo attractions.
The instructor is available to answer any questions about Japanese culture, customs, or sightseeing.
If participants are running late, they should email their estimated arrival time. The instructor will wait until 9:30 a.m.; late arrivals may miss part of the Tsukiji visit.

This unique experience offers a guided tour of the Tsukiji Outer Market paired with a private, interactive sushi-making session in a Japanese home — a rare opportunity for visitors.
Guided by a National Licensed Guide Interpreter with 15 years of expertise, the focus is on appreciating Japanese food culture through everyday cooking rather than professional techniques.
Participants will learn straightforward, practical sushi-making methods that can be easily replicated at home. The aim is not to mimic a sushi chef, but to acquire essential skills — such as preparing sushi rice, slicing tuna, and grating wasabi — in a relaxed, home-style atmosphere.
Unlike classes conducted in restaurants or studios, this program provides insight into typical Japanese life, demonstrating how sushi can be prepared and enjoyed in an authentic home setting.
- Walking around Tsukiji is difficult with a wheelchair or stroller. The sushi-making venue (my home) is in a barrier-free tower condominium directly connected to the train station.
