An Amazing Food Tour - Grab a Spot! - Sign up for Mr. Gracie's incredible tour! This the best tour we had in New Zealand! You won't find a better guide who is kind, fun, knowledgeable, a perfect people-person who demostrates how we arrive as strangers, and leave as friends. His Christchurch experience is now a beautiful memory and experience. We loved the places he chose to have a wonderful group lunch, wonderful coffee and ice cream! Mr. Gracie is engaging, humorous and genuine. Thank you for an exceptional tour! It was a pleasure to meet you!

Super Tour - Great Guide - Wonderful Food - Riwai (‘Grace’) was a super host! He and his wife own the business and are locals and he did a great job. He was on time, very pleasant, funny, informative and picked great places to sample.
We first stopped at Kaiser Brew Garden
Colony for lunch. Everyone got a drink. My wife and I don’t drink alcohol but we had ‘Surfer Girl’ Moctails which had cranberry juice, pineapple juice and something else - it was delicious. I think Riwai order some of everything on the menu for our table of 9. Everything was truly delicious. There was fried chicken with pickles and jalapeños; deep fried cauliflower, broccoli, calamari, salmon salad, mushroom feta pizza and bratwurst/chorizo/jalapeño pizza and sweet potato fries - everything had amazing flavors and sauces - spot on great food!
Next we stopped at She Chocolaterie Riverside where we could order coffee, tea, hot chocolate or chocolate. My wife ordered hot chocolate with salted caramel which was very tasty. I ordered the cold chocolate milk with raspberry and rose and whipped cream. It was also delicious. I wish I’d thought to get a picture because the presentation is also wonderful.
Many tours cut things short and end early which is a disappointment. This tour actually ran longer and we had to step out before the stop for ice cream, but I’m sure it was just as wonderful as the rest of the food.
If you are looking for a walking tour that shares a bit of the history of Christchurch; has great food and a super guide, this is the tour for you! We truly enjoyed ourselves!

Excellent Food Tour with a Historical and Cultural Backdrop - Ash did a wonderful job providing a historical and cultural backdrop at the outset. There were so many places to eat in the area that walking was kept to a minimum which was good because our tour was conducted in the rain. Proprietors all went out of their way to be accommodating - they clearly knew and liked Ash. She was also concerned about my food allergy at all times. I visited a couple of other places afterward that we did not stop at during the tour but Ash had recommended and they were good as well. An overall fun experience!

Interesting, Informative, friendly with a traditional Maori welcome - We opted to do the Kai Safari which started at 5.30 at the Bridge of Remembrance. Riwai was our entertaining and welcoming guide. He greeted us in Maori with an English translation and invited us to do the hongi - traditional Maori greeting.
He was good at remembering names and details of the 6 guests on our tour.
The food - Kai- Safari consisted of 3 places to eat. The first was the trendy King of Snake where we had delicious tasting spoons of scallops followed by a tasty fish canape and then eggplant with a delicious sauce and rice. We also had wine or there were beers, soft drinks or non alcoholic alternatives.
The second venue was called Kaiser which was more a pizza/ burger place with lots of drink options including non alcoholic wine and beers. We had some tasty calamari, cauliflower, belly pork, sweet potato fries with dips and 2 types of pizza. Kaiser was a lively and buzzing venue.
The final food venue was an artisan ice-cream shop where we were allowed to try different flavours before choosing. Riwai recommended 2 scoops with chocolate on top.
Riwai had checked with everyone about food intolerances etc and if there was anything we wouldn't eat. He emphasized that the company tailors the tour according to any dietary preferences etc vegan etc. He also said that food venues are regularly checked to ensure good standards.
The drinks were included and we enjoyed all the food we had. Service was friendly and efficient at every venue.
So that's the food side of the tour, but there's much more to it. Riwai also talked about Maori culture, for example taking us to a small garden and explaining the significance of the stone there . By the river he explained about the mythology behind the tuna ( eels to us)
He explained the importance of place and family in Maori culture and in the community he lives in currently.
He also talked about Christchurch and the earthquakes and how the community combined to respond to the initial emergency and how the city was replanned and rebuilt.
He also liked jokes and humour. It wasn't one sided though as he was curious to find out about our lives and any shared interests e.g. sport or places he had lived and worked in.
Kia Ora Riwai for an excellent tour to celebrate my husband' s 60th. My only complaint is that the time flew past so fast.
We would highly recommend this tour.
