Chinchero Archaeological Complex - The day begins with a hotel pick-up between 6:20 and 6:45 a.m. in private transport, heading to the charming village of Chinchero, known as the “Village of the Incas,” located just 45 minutes from Cusco. The first stop is at a traditional knitting center, where Andean weavers demonstrate how they transform llama and alpaca wool into colorful crafts using ancient techniques. Following this, the tour visits the Chinchero archaeological complex, once the summer palace of Inca Pachacútec. Today, a colonial church with white walls stands on these Inca foundations, symbolizing cultural fusion. Beyond its history, Chinchero is notable for its fertile soil and innovative Inca farming techniques. This site offers a deep insight into the cultural, agricultural, and textile heritage of the Sacred Valley.
Moray - The next stop is Moray, a unique location in the Sacred Valley. Here, visitors find large circular terraces built by the Incas, resembling an amphitheater. In reality, they served as an agricultural laboratory. Each level has a different temperature, allowing the Incas to experiment with crops. This enabled them to determine the best climate for each plant, such as potatoes, corn, or quinoa. It’s incredible to see how, hundreds of years ago, they managed this knowledge without modern technology. Walking through Moray inspires thoughts of how they worked the land and adapted to their environment intelligently. It is a place that blends science, history, and unique landscapes.
Salt Mine of Maras - The tour then visits Maras, one of the most photogenic spots in the Sacred Valley. Here, thousands of salt pools are located on the mountainside. These salt pans have existed since pre-Inca times and are still used to extract salt traditionally by the locals. Natural spring water flows through channels to the pools, where it evaporates under the sun. Once dried, salt crystals form and are collected by hand. This technique has been passed down through generations and remains a primary source of work for many local families. Maras rose salt is highly regarded for its unique flavor and nutritional properties. While learning about this ancient process, visitors can enjoy a spectacular landscape, perfect for taking unforgettable photos.
Urubamba - After exploring the incredible sites of the Sacred Valley, there is a pause in Urubamba, a peaceful village surrounded by mountains and fertile fields. Here, the group stops at a local restaurant to enjoy a varied lunch buffet, perfect for recharging. Most of these restaurants are run by local families, many of whom are farmers, ensuring fresh and seasonal ingredients. Guests can try typical dishes of Andean and Peruvian cuisine, with options for all tastes, from traditional soups to meats, vegetables, quinoa, and delicious desserts. It is the perfect time to relax, enjoy local food, and prepare for the next part of the trip.
Ollantaytambo Archaeological Park - After lunch, the journey continues to Ollantaytambo, one of the most important cities in the Sacred Valley. This place was not only an ancient administrative capital of the Incas but also a strategic ceremonial and military center. The city is surrounded by two hills that hold impressive Inca ruins. The tour includes a climb to one of the most outstanding complexes: the Temple of the Sun, built with huge stones perfectly fitted. Visitors walk through its agricultural terraces, the old main square, and other spaces that still preserve the essence of this civilization. Ollantaytambo is also special because it retains its original Inca layout, with cobblestone streets and water channels. It is a place where the past remains very present, and the spirit of the ancient inhabitants can be felt.
Aguas Calientes - The first day concludes with a scenic train ride to Aguas Calientes, the town that serves as the gateway to Machu Picchu. During the journey, travelers can enjoy breathtaking scenery: snow-capped mountains, flowing rivers, and a forest that becomes denser as the train descends. The journey is comfortable and offers unique views that make the trip an unforgettable experience. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, a representative will be waiting at the station to accompany guests to their hotel, where they will spend the night. The accommodation includes a private bathroom and all the necessary comforts to rest well and be ready for the next big day: the visit to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.
Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu - In the morning, after breakfast at the hotel, an assistant will escort guests to the bus station. From there, a bus will take them to the Machu Picchu Archaeological Sanctuary in a 30-minute drive. Upon arrival at the Inca citadel, a tour guide will welcome them and lead an exploration of this wonder of the modern world. During the tour, visitors will learn about the history and impressive architecture of Machu Picchu. At the end of the tour, the group returns by bus to the town of Aguas Calientes. In the afternoon at 4:22 p.m., they will take the Vistadome Observatory train back to Ollantaytambo. From there, they will continue by bus to Cusco, where a driver will be waiting to take them back to their hotel.
