This temple, a creation of the renowned Thai artist Chalermchai Kosipipat, is dedicated to Lord Buddha with the aim of creating a paradise on earth that symbolizes justice and the promotion of good karma. The temple’s art and intricate architecture are exceptional, with the assembly hall of Wat Rong Khun being unique due to its carved pediment apexes and tooth-shaped crests. The hall is predominantly white, symbolizing Buddha’s purity, and the clear mirror glass represents the wisdom of the Awakened illuminating the earth and universe.

Golden Triangle - Continue to the famous Golden Triangle, where the borders of Myanmar (formerly Burma), Thailand, and Laos converge. Located 9 kilometers north of Chiang Saen, along the Mekong River, Sop Ruak is where the Mekong River (bordering Laos) meets the Ruak River (bordering Burma). Historically, the Golden Triangle was a major hub for drug trafficking due to its strategic location near opioid-producing countries. The visit includes Wat Phra That Pu Khao, offering stunning views of the Golden Triangle, the Mekong River, and the forested mountains.

Mae Sai - Visit Mae Sai, a bustling border town with a large market along the Myanmar (formerly Burma) border, offering a wide variety of goods. The lively atmosphere includes street vendors, merchant scooters transporting goods, and cars along the main street. While there are many products available, some may be of lower quality.

It was established as a Yunnanese settlement in the 1960s by remnants of the Kuomintang army (KMT) who fled Yunnan after Mao Tse Tung’s forces triumphed in the Chinese civil war. While most of the Republican army sought refuge in Formosa, now Taiwan, some units escaped through Burma and Laos, eventually settling in the anti-communist Kingdom of Thailand.
