Arrival and Check-in in Lhasa
Lhasa - Upon arrival, a guide will be waiting in the arrival hall to escort guests to the pre-arranged hotel. It is recommended to rest well to acclimate to the high-altitude environment before venturing out.
Exploring Downtown Lhasa: Potala Palace—Jokhang Temple—Barkhor Street
Potala Palace - In the morning, visitors will explore the Potala Palace, the world’s highest ancient palace-style complex, which was the residence of the Dalai Lamas and the center of political and religious power in Tibet. Before reaching the Potala Palace, over 1080 steps must be climbed. Although the ascent may be challenging, the breathtaking views of Lhasa will make it worthwhile!
Jokhang Temple - In the afternoon, the sacred Jokhang Temple, cherished by Tibetan Buddhists, will be visited. This architectural marvel combines Tibetan, Tang, Nepalese, and Indian styles, representing a timeless symbol of Tibetan religious architecture.
Barkhor Street - After visiting the Jokhang Temple, guests can leisurely stroll around it in a clockwise direction, explore the handicraft market on Barkhor Street, or simply wander the streets, enjoying the warmth of the Sunlight city. Alternatively, they can relax in a charming tea house and experience the leisurely lifestyle of Tibetan locals.
Lhasa—Basomtso—Nyingchi
Nyingchi County - Afterwards, the journey continues to Nyingchi, known as the “Throne of the Sun” in Tibetan. Along the way, travelers will enjoy the scenery of the Nyang River Valley and pristine forests, experiencing the true beauty of mountains and rivers.
Nyingchi—Mt. Namcha Barwa—Lulang Forest—Nyingchi
Nyingchi—Kadinggou Waterfall—Lhasa
Kadinggou Scenic Spot - After breakfast, the tour heads to the primitive forest known as Kadinggou Waterfall, which translates to “Heavenly Buddha Waterfall”. It features typical gorge landscapes, with towering mountains and deep valleys. Ancient trees are scattered throughout the area, and the waterfall cascades nearly 200 meters down, forming a benevolent natural face resembling a Buddha, hence the name “Heavenly Buddha Waterfall”. After the visit, the journey returns to Lhasa along the same route.
Lhasa—Yamdrok Lake—Karola Glacier—Shigatse
Yamdrok Yumtso Lake - Passing by the green farmland of Nyangchu Valley, Yamdrok lakes, and Karo-la glacier roadside at 4960m, the journey moves westwards to the second largest city, Shigatse, an area spiritually hosted by the Panchen Lama. The main attractions for the day are Yamdrok Lake and Kubum monastery in Gyantse. Yamdrok Lake is shaped like a coiling scorpion with a deep blue color, and Kubum monastery features a 35m-high chorten (stupa) with white layers trimmed with decorative stripes and a crown-like golden dome.
Shigatse—Tingri—EBC
EBC—Tingri—Shigatse
Shigatse—Tashilunpo Monastery—Tibetan Family Visit—Lhasa
Tashilunpo Monastery - Before spending about 4 hours driving back to Lhasa from Shigatse, the tour will visit the largest monastery in west Tibet, the Tashilunpo Monastery, as the last but famous historic site of the Tibet tour. Tashilunpo Monastery is one of the six great Gelukpa institutions and was founded in 1447 by a disciple of Tsongkapa, containing the world’s largest gilded copper image (26m high) of the future god Jampa. Then, the journey continues along the Friendship Highway back to Lhasa.
Lhasa—Namtso—Northern Tibet Grassland—Lhasa
Lake Namtso - In the early morning, the tour will drive through the vast grasslands of northern Tibet, where colorful prayer flags flutter in the wind, and travel along the Qinghai-Tibet Highway. Cross the 5190-meter high Nagela Mountain Pass and arrive at the first of Tibet’s three sacred lakes, the “Heavenly Lake” Namtso, at an altitude of 4718 meters. Namtso Lake is the highest saltwater lake in the world and the second largest in China. In the evening, return to Lhasa accompanied by the glow of the setting sun.
Departure from Lhasa
Lhasa - At the conclusion of the Tibet trip, transportation to the airport will be arranged. Lhasa Gongga Airport-Chengdu
