Daci Temple - Tai Koo Li is perfect for those with limited time who wish to quickly grasp Chengdu’s unique charm. Tai Koo Li is Chengdu’s trendiest spot, featuring a variety of Western and Chinese brands, delightful restaurants, luxury shops, and more. Adjacent to this bustling area is the serene and grand Daci Temple (Temple of Great Mercy), offering a glimpse into Buddhist culture, a place to pray for happiness and wisdom, and a chance to experience peace and tranquility.
Chengdu - Dujiangyan - Jiuzhaigou
Dujiangyan Irrigation System - After breakfast, we head to Jiuzhaigou, departing the Chengdu Plain and arriving at Dujiangyan. Over 2,000 years ago, the world’s oldest and still operational irrigation project was constructed here. It has provided flood control and irrigation, earning the Chengdu Plain the title “Land of Abundance” with its “water and dryness controlled by man.” Passing through Songpan Ancient City, established during the Ming Hongwu period, this ancient city served as a military fortress in Northwestern Sichuan and a vital trading hub for tea and horses among the Tibetan, Qiang, Hui, and Han ethnic groups. In the evening, we will reach the entrance of Jiuzhaigou and check into the hotel.
Jiuzhaigou
Jiuzhaigou Natural Reserve - Today is dedicated to exploring the Jiuzhaigou Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a haven for nature enthusiasts. The valley is celebrated for its breathtaking natural beauty, including colorful lakes, cascading waterfalls, and snow-capped peaks. Our journey begins with a shuttle bus ride to the upper reaches of the valley. From there, we will hike along scenic paths, passing by crystal-clear turquoise lakes such as Shuzheng Lake, Sparkling Lake, and Five-Flower Lake. The vibrant hues of these lakes, ranging from emerald green to sapphire blue, are truly captivating. Overnight at Jiuzhaigou.
Jiuzhaigou - Huanglong - Ruoergai
Huanglong Scenic Valley - After breakfast, we set off early to explore Huanglong, home to one of the world’s three most magnificent travertine lake terraces. Viewed from Snow Treasure Mountain, the lake terrace resembles a yellow dragon with dazzling scales, hence the name Huanglong (meaning yellow dragon in Chinese). Descending, you can immerse yourself in the stunning snow mountains, glaciers, waterfalls, and lakes. Afterwards, we will depart Huanglong and head to Ruoergai Grassland, one of China’s largest marshlands. Upon arrival in Ruoergai, we will be welcomed by the vast and beautiful grassland scenery, where countless herds of yaks and sheep graze freely on the fertile land. The grassland offers a peaceful and idyllic atmosphere, perfect for a leisurely walk and enjoying the fresh air. Overnight at Ruoergai.
Ruoergai - Langmu Monastery
Langmu Monastery - Xiahe
Labrang Monastery (Labuleng Si) - After breakfast, we continue our journey to Labrang Monastery (approximately 3 hours), one of the world’s most significant Tibetan Buddhist monasteries. Located in Xiahe County, Gansu Province, Labrang Monastery boasts over 300 years of history and is renowned for its architectural beauty and cultural importance. Here, we can explore the various halls, temples, and residences within the monastery complex and witness the daily religious rituals and ceremonies performed by the resident monks. Overnight at Xiahe.
Xiahe - Liujiaxia
Bingling Temple Grottoes - We drive two hours to reach Bingling Grottoes, situated in Xiaojieshi Mountain. Established in the first year of Jianhong of the Western Qin Dynasty (AD 420), it has a history spanning over 1600 years. The grottoes are lined with niches along the steep and dramatic red sandstone cliffs, stretching 2 km from north to south, with suspended plank roads. Among them, the 169th cave is a natural large cave and the most significant grotto. It contains statues and murals from the Western Qin Dynasty. Bingling Temple Grottoes are divided into the upper temple, cave valley, and lower temple. The lower temple is the most impressive, with its relief pagoda and Tantric murals as famous as the Mogao Grottoes and Maijishan Grottoes. Overnight at Liujiaxia.
Liujiaxia - Lanzhou
Lanzhou - In the morning, we drive to Lanzhou (approximately 2 hours), a city with a rich history and cultural heritage. For over a thousand years, from the Han to the Song Dynasty, Lanzhou has been a major town in the northwest, known as the “barrier to the Central Plains and connection to the Western Regions.” The city is filled with ancient sites and numerous relics. The Yellow River flows through the city, providing Lanzhou with a unique and diverse natural landscape. In Lanzhou, we can visit the Yellow River Mother Sculpture, symbolizing the Yellow River’s significance in Chinese culture. We can also take a stroll along the Yellow River’s banks and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Finally, we will check into a hotel in Lanzhou and have dinner, concluding our journey through the enchanting region of north Sichuan and Gannan. Overnight at Lanzhou.
