Beijing to Chengde Summer Resort

Beijing - Your driver will pick you up at around 7:30am and take you to the renowned ChengDe Mountain Resort, which is a 3-hour drive. During the journey, you can either take a nap in the comfortable, air-conditioned car or enjoy the scenery along the way.

Imperial Summer Palace of Mountain Resort - Upon arriving at Chengde Mountain Resort around 10:30am, you will first visit the emperor’s garden for 2.5 hours. This garden served as the Summer Palace for the Qing Dynasty emperors and is the largest imperial garden in China, being twice the size of Beijing’s Summer Palace. Its construction began under Emperor Kangxi in 1703 and continued through much of Emperor Qianlong’s reign, spanning nearly ninety years. The Imperial Summer Villa often functioned as a second capital, a tradition started by Kangxi and followed by subsequent Qing emperors. In 1994, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Temple of Universal Peace (Puning si) - After lunch, you will visit Puning Temple, one of the outer eight temples. Here, you will learn about its history and the stories behind it. At the end of the day, you will be transferred to your hotel in Chengde (accommodation costs are not included).

Patala Palace-Temple of Distant Peace-Beijing

Potala Palace (Putuo Zongcheng Temple) - After breakfast and checking out from the hotel, your guide will meet you in the hotel lobby. Today, you will visit the largest of the outer eight temples, the little Potala Palace. This temple was built for the Dalai Lama and Panchen Lama during their visit from Tibet, modeled after the Potala Palace in Lhasa. You will have a couple of hours to explore this temple.

Beijing - After the tour, you will drive back to Beijing, which will take another 3 hours.

Previously referred to as Jehol or Rehe, Chengde is a prefecture-level city located in Hebei province, about 180 km to the northeast of Beijing. It’s widely recognized for the Mountain Resort, a large royal garden and palace that was traditionally used as a summer retreat by the Qing emperors due to the mild summer climate (average 24.5°C /76.1°F in July, with an annual mean of 9.11°C/48.4°F). This tour will allow you to explore the UNESCO sites, the imperial garden, and Tibetan temples.
