Travel through the stunning Rif Mountains and admire the Mediterranean landscape. Pass through the Jbala region on the way to Chefchaouen, known as Morocco’s most relaxed and welcoming city. Wander through the maze of narrow, blue-tinted pedestrian streets and buildings, and take in the breathtaking views of the Rif Mountains and valley. Visit Place Outa El Hamam, the Ras el-Ma Waterfall, Bab El Ain, the Kasbah, the Medina, and more. Savor Moroccan cuisine and enjoy tea on a panoramic terrace.
- Place Outa el Hammam - Outa el Hammam square is the historical and touristic heart of Chefchaouen, featuring the Grand Mosque, its minaret, and numerous pavement cafes and restaurants. This area is lively and engaging, located in the city center. Outa el Hammam square is a top tourist destination, celebrated for its historical monuments and vibrant atmosphere. Historically, it served as a training ground for riders and martial artists. It is the city’s oldest square, renowned for its rich history and contemporary life, with shops and cultural activities.
- Ras El Maa Waterfall - Located just beyond the northeastern gate of the Chefchaouen medina, the Ras El Maa waterfall is where water gushes from the mountain, and local women come to do their laundry. The sound of the water and the lush hills beyond the medina wall offer a refreshing natural experience.
- Bab EL Ain - This is the main entrance to the Medina. Bab El Ain, meaning “the eye gate,” is a two-story structure where guards once watched over the Medina. It is the most convenient gate, with banks, money changers, cafes, a tourist office, and an area map nearby. The Muslim Cemetery is adjacent to it. From this gate, you can access the bus station and the Central Market. Built in the 15th century during the reign of Mullay Bin Rashid, it is made of beige sandstone.
- Kasbah Museum - If you’re seeking a break from the blue, Chefchaouen’s 15th-century clay-brown kasbah offers a beautiful Andalusian-style garden, a former prison, the small Center for Research and Andalusian Studies, and a tiny art gallery (open only during exhibitions). One of the fortress’s 13 towers, the Portuguese Tower, named after the Portuguese prisoners who constructed it, features plaques detailing Riffian history and offers stunning views of the medina.
- Chefchaouen Medina - Exploring the Chefchaouen Medina in Morocco is one of the country’s most rewarding experiences. Inside the old medina, everything is painted blue.
