• Bab EL Ain - This is the main entrance to the Medina. Bab El Ain, meaning “the eye gate,” is a two-story structure where guards once watched over the Medina. It is the most convenient gate, with banks, money changers, cafes, a tourist office, and an area map nearby. The Muslim Cemetery is adjacent to it. From this gate, you can access the bus station and the Central Market. Built in the 15th century during the reign of Mullay Bin Rashid, it is made of beige sandstone.
• Kasbah Museum - If you’re seeking a break from the blue, Chefchaouen’s 15th-century clay-brown kasbah offers a beautiful Andalusian-style garden, a former prison, the small Center for Research and Andalusian Studies, and a tiny art gallery (open only during exhibitions). One of the fortress’s 13 towers, the Portuguese Tower, named after the Portuguese prisoners who constructed it, features plaques detailing Riffian history and offers stunning views of the medina.
