Lukla - Enjoy a breathtaking 30-minute flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (9,186ft), one of the most scenic air routes in the world, landing on a hillside surrounded by towering peaks. Lukla serves as the gateway for your trek, where you meet your trekking team and prepare for the journey ahead. Begin your trek with a gentle descent, reaching Cheplung village in about an hour, where you catch a glimpse of the sacred Mt. Khumbila (18,900 ft), which remains unclimbed. Continue descending gradually to reach Phakding for an overnight stay.
Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar: 5 - 6 hours trek
Phakding - Start your trek with a pleasant walk through a beautiful pine forest, following the trail north up the Benkar valley. Cross the Dudh Koshi River and continue past Chumoa to Monjo, the entrance to Everest National Park. After crossing a suspension bridge, pass through Jorsale village and walk alongside the Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi rivers. A steep ascent leads you to Namche Bazaar, the heartland of the Sherpa community. If weather permits, enjoy views of Mt. Everest and Mt. Lhotse an hour before reaching Namche Bazaar.
Acclimatization Day at Namche Bazaar
Namche Bazaar - Spend a day resting and relaxing at Namche Bazaar, the main hub of the Khumbu region, featuring government offices, ATMs, Internet cafes, shops, restaurants, and a vibrant market. For those interested in a day hike, trek to Khumjung village (12,401 ft), a charming Sherpa settlement, and enjoy the unique flora and fauna at this altitude.
Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche: 5 - 6 hours trek
Tengboche Gompa - Descend to the Dudh-Koshi River and then ascend through rhododendron forests to Tengboche. While descending, enjoy views of mountain peaks such as Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Kongde. Upon reaching Tengboche, visit the region’s largest monastery and soak in the views of Everest, Ama Dablam, and other peaks. Overnight in Tengboche.
Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche: 5 - 6 hours trek
Tengboche Gompa - Begin your journey with a descent through forests filled with birch, conifers, and rhododendrons. Enjoy stunning views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. Follow the trail to the Imja Valley, cross the Lobuche River, and climb up to Dingboche. Here, you’ll find fields enclosed by stone walls to protect crops like barley, buckwheat, and potatoes from cold winds and grazing animals.
Acclimatization day at Dingboche
Dingboche - Spend your sixth day resting and acclimatizing in Dingboche, a picturesque village with fields protected by stone walls. Take day hikes to Nagarjun Hill or Chukkhung Valley for spectacular views of Makalu, Lhotse, Chalotse, Tawache, and Ama Dablam.
Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche: 5-6 hours trek
Lobuche - Start with a gradual climb to Duglha at the end of the Khumbu moraine. Ascend a steep trail to Chupki Lhara, where memorials to Scott Fischer and Babu Chiri Sherpa stand. Continue to the Khumbu moraine, facing peaks like Khumbutse, Lingtren, Pumori, and Mahalangur Himal. The trail eases as you follow the valley to Lobuche.
Lobuche to Gorak Shep (5,160 m/16928ft) to Everest Base Camp (5,364 m/17,597 ft) and back to Gorak Shep: 14km, 8-9hrs.
Gorak Shep - Follow the trail to Everest Base Camp through the former Gorak Shep Lake. Pass Indian army mountaineers’ memorials and navigate the challenging path with your lead Sherpa. The high altitude makes the walk strenuous. Traverse rocky dunes, moraine, and streams to reach Everest Base Camp, where colorful tents contrast with the gray surroundings. View Nuptse, Khumbuste, and Pumori from the base camp before returning to Gorak Shep for rest.
Trekking to Kala Patthar (5,550 m/18,207 ft) from Gorak Shep and then to Pheriche (4,230 m/13877 ft); 15km, 7-8hrs.
Pheriche - Depart early in the morning amid pre-dawn darkness and cold temperatures (-10 to -14 C), with potential chilly winds. Familiar peaks like Lingtren, Khumbutse, and Changtse rise to the east as Everest reveals itself. At Kala Patthar, enjoy 360-degree views of Mt. Everest. Spend time capturing the panoramic views before returning to Lobuche for rest.
Trek from Pheriche to Namche Bazaar: 6 - 7 hours trek
Pheriche - Dughlha Road - Pass through rhododendrons, juniper trees, and prayer flags along the suspension bridge over the Dudh Koshi River. The trail descends rapidly through pine forests, where you might spot colorful pheasants and mountain goats. Reach Sansa for views of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Nuptse. Continue through winding trails and forests to Namche Bazaar.
Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla: 6 - 7 hours trek
Namche Bazaar - The trail descends steeply, requiring cautious walking as you navigate the rocky terrain. After crossing suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi and its tributaries, the trail levels out. Upon arrival in Lukla, stretch your legs and reflect on the past weeks’ experiences.
A 30-35 minutes return flight from Lukla to Kathmandu & Farewell
Lukla - Catch an early morning flight to Kathmandu after your mountain adventure. Upon arrival, rest or shop for souvenirs. Explore other areas of Kathmandu if desired, with guides available to assist with shopping. Celebrate your successful journey with a farewell dinner in the evening.
