Monticello - The 2.5-hour drive from the DC Metro area to Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello offers a smooth transition from the bustling capital to Virginia’s serene countryside. As the monuments fade into pastoral landscapes and the Blue Ridge foothills, the journey sets a tranquil and picturesque tone for visiting Jefferson’s mountaintop residence.
Upon arrival, visitors will have tickets for entry and a scheduled tour inside the home, guided by an onsite tour guide. An 8-minute introductory film is available to watch upon arrival if desired. Additionally, there is an opportunity to join a 45-minute Gardens and Grounds Tour (not prescheduled) and the Slavery at Monticello Tour (not prescheduled). Guests can also visit Jefferson’s grave and the burial ground for enslaved individuals. An onsite café is available.
