Island Adventures: A Family Day Out with Island Buggy Excursions
When I found myself in Charlotte Amalie West, the allure of exploring the island at my own pace was irresistible. Join me as I recount a day filled with spontaneous adventures, hidden gems, and unforgettable family moments with Island Buggy Excursions.
A Spontaneous Adventure Begins
As a family travel writer, I’m always on the lookout for unique experiences that can be enjoyed by the whole family. So, when I found myself in Charlotte Amalie West, St. Thomas, I couldn’t resist the allure of the Island Buggy Excursions. It was a spontaneous decision, much like the one made by a fellow traveler I read about, who stumbled upon this gem during a cruise stop.
Upon disembarking, we were greeted by Liston, a friendly face from Island Buggy Excursions. He led us to their office where we met John, the owner. John was incredibly accommodating, setting us up with a buggy and explaining how the day would unfold. With GPS on the buggy and maps on our phones, we were ready to explore the island at our own pace. This flexibility was perfect for our family, allowing us to tailor the day to our interests—beaches, shopping, and of course, some delicious island cuisine.
Discovering Hidden Gems
Our first stop was the stunning Emerald Beach Resort. The kids were thrilled to splash around in the crystal-clear waters while my husband and I relaxed on the soft white sand. We could have stayed there all day, but the promise of more adventures beckoned us onward.
Next, we ventured to Brewer’s Bay, a spot recommended for its sea turtles. The kids were ecstatic to spot a few of these gentle creatures while snorkeling. We also indulged in some mouth-watering island food from a nearby food truck. The fish tacos at The Shack at Hull Bay were a particular highlight, offering a taste of local flavors that we won’t soon forget.
A Day to Remember
As the day continued, we made our way to Mountain Top, home to the famous Banana Daiquiri and the largest souvenir store in St. Thomas. The views from the patio were breathtaking, offering a panoramic vista of the surrounding islands. It was a perfect spot for a family photo, capturing a memory that will last a lifetime.
Our final stop was Magens Bay, a breathtaking beach where we spent the rest of the afternoon. The kids built sandcastles while my husband and I enjoyed a refreshing drink from the beach bar. As the sun began to set, we made our way back to the port, stopping at The Lost Turtle for a quick drink and some last-minute shopping.
Throughout the day, John and Liston were in constant communication, ensuring we had everything we needed and guiding us to our next destination. Their personalized service made the experience truly special, allowing us to explore the island without the constraints of a guided tour. It was a day filled with laughter, adventure, and unforgettable family moments—a perfect day in St. Thomas!
